Last week on Onyx Equinox, Izel learned more about his unfortunate destiny, even as he acquired two unlikely allies. This week, Crunchyroll exclusively revealed Yaotl's worries about Izel and his role as humanity's savior to CBR in an exclusive clip from "The Stranger," the fourth episode.
The clip begins as Yaotl, the jaguar-like emissary of Tezcatlipoca, walks into a shrine and bites his own leg. As he let his blue blood drip onto the altar, he announced, "Quetzalcoatl, god of wisdom and wind. Precious twin, boundary maker and transgressor, there is a problem with your champion." Suddenly, the stone altar split open, as Yaotl's blue blood swirled up in a cloud of black smoke. Several red bones shot out of the altar as the smoke continued to rise and twist.
Out of this smoke, Quetzalcoatl emerged. The god greeted Yaotl with surprise, saying they presumed Yaotl would report directly to Tezcatlipoca. However, Yaotl informed Quetzalcoatl that it is "not my place to question the will of the gods," and that Tezcatlipoca put Yaotl in Quetzalcoatl's employ until this task is complete.
"We have a problem," Yaotl explained. "Your chosen pawn is tainted by underworld energy. I worry there are interfering forces at play. His eyes are --" However, when he noticed Quetzalcoatl watching their boney hand become slowly more human, Yaotl paused and snarled, "What?!"
In addition to this clip, CBR can also reveal some exclusive stills from the episode. These stills give an early look at Zyanya, the wanderer, who will play a major role in the episode.
According to the official "The Strangers" synopsis,
Izel, K’in and Yun struggle to close the second gate at Lakamha. There, they meet the suspicious wanderer Zyanya, who offers to help them close the gate, but only if they return to Danibaan with her to save her people.
