Dragon Ball Super Reveals the Saiyans’ Conquest of Cereal

The latest preview for the next chapter of Dragon Ball Super provides a new look back at the Frieza Force's conquest of Cereal.

Rough sketches and layouts were posted to the official Dragon Ball website as a preview for chapter 77 of the series, entitled "Bardock: The Father of Goku."  The preview reveals that Cerealians and the Namekians who call the planet home aren't able to put up much of a fight against the Saiyan warriors, who quickly transform into their great ape forms and begin decimating the planet. The flashback ends with Monaito, the Namekian sage who last was seen putting an end to the fight between Vegeta and Granolah in the previous chapter, encounters a Saiyan with a distinct facial scar that should be very familiar to anyone who has seen the classic 1990 Dragon Ball Z special, Bardock: The Father of Goku.

The full chapter will be released later this month and should provide further revelations about the Saiyans, Goku's father and what happened on Cereal all those years ago.

The release of the previous chapter and Vegeta's portrayal in it inspired a lot of discussion from fans, some of whom were disappointed by the Saiyan prince's unwillingness to cooperate with Goku during their fight with the powerful Granolah, while others thought the numerous twists during the fight were entertaining and were a nice callback to Vegeta's original arrogant attitude. The debate got heated enough that "Vegeta" trended on Twitter worldwide while fans argued whether Dragon Ball Super's portrayal of the character so far was true to Saiyan warriors roots in Akira Toriyama's original Dragon Ball manga.

In addition to the next chapter of Super, Dragon Ball fans can also look forward to the next movie in the series, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. The first real clips from the movie and its new CG animation style were finally revealed at this year's New York Comic-Con. The movie will be set several years after the events of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and will feature the return of Goku's old foes, the Red Ribbon Army, as well the introduction of a pair of new costumed fighters. The movie's producers revealed that Piccolo and Goku's granddaughter Pan will play a big role in the movie's story. Pan is now kindergarten age and has started to learn the martial arts from Piccolo, who also trained her father Gohan when he was child. The movie is currently on track to be released in Japan in 2022, with the movie's producers promising that they will work to ensure that the movie gets released in other countries as quickly as possible following its Japanese premiere.
