Dragon Ball Super: Granolah Disposes of a Key Ally

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Super Chapter 75, by Akira Toriyama, Toyotarou, Caleb Cook and Brandon Bovia, available now in English through Viz Media.

When Granolah was first revealed in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 67, he came equipped with an artificial intelligence named Oatmeel that took the form of an eye patch. While Oatmeel has stayed silent for much of the subsequent issues, he's remained a key source of support for Granolah, providing him with intelligence and other information to help him in his battles. However, in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 75, Granolah gets rid of Oatmeel.

At the start of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 75, Vegeta unleashes his new transformation -- Ultra Ego -- against Granolah. The Saiyan prince proves dominant and eventually brings their battle to the ruins of a Cerelian city. During a pause in their battle, Granolah laments that Freeza's grunts are proving so formidable. However, Vegeta takes this opportunity to correct his opponent, explaining that he doesn't like Freeza, as he's responsible for the near-total destruction of the Saiyan people.

Oatmeel informs Granolah that this information contradicts what Granolah had heard, which is that the Saiyans were essentially still just lackeys of Freeza. Regardless of the truth, though, Granolah resolves to get his revenge against the Saiyans and destroy him in retaliation for their race having wiped out the Cerealians. Soon, Granolah ends up getting some distance from Vegeta. Oatmeel tries to make a case for the Saiyans, explaining that Goku and Vegeta weren't involved in the destruction of the Cerealians.

Granolah doesn't want to have any of his partner's counsel. Instead, the last Cerealian pulls off his eye patch and throws it to the ground, saying, "Now that I'm the strongest, I don't need your support anymore." An annoyed Oatmeel then summons Granolah's ship and uses the tractor beam to board before taking off for parts unknown.

Over the course of Dragon Ball Super, Granolah has started to isolate himself from his friends and allies in his pursuit of revenge against Freeza and the Saiyans. Earlier in the series, Granolah found himself at odds with Monaito, Planet Cereal's resident Namekian and one of the Cerealian's closest friends. Monaito, for his part, didn't want Granolah to abuse the power of the Dragon Balls in pursuit of power and revenge. By abusing the Dragon Balls, Granolah damaged his relationship with Monaito. Now, Granolah has chosen to disregard the advice of a close companion because it challenged his quest. So while Granolah may have started out as something of a hero in Dragon Ball Super, his desire to hurt others is doing damage to those closest to him.

Dragon Ball Super Chapter 76 does not have a confirmed English release date through Viz Media at this time.
