In the Dragon Ball franchise, Trunks comes from the future to stop the Android invasion and warn the Z Fighters about Goku’s death. Being Vegeta and Bulma’s child, Trunks comes from a unique mix of Saiyan and Human heritage that combines brains with brawn. Trunks has multiple strange characteristics that make him stand out from other Saiyans; here are five of the weirder secrets about his body.
Trunk’s Unique Super Saiyan Ability
At times, Trunks gets overwhelmed by rage and unlocks his hidden form Super Saiyan Rage. This unique power-up is exclusive to Trunks and improves the abilities of his already powerful Super Saiyan 2 form. Not only does his physique change drastically when he powers up, but the Saiyan aura around his body takes on a blue and golden shade to replicate the characteristics of Super Saiyan Blue.
A distinct feature of when Trunks enters Super Saiyan Rage mode is when his eyes lose their pupils, similar to the eyes of a Great Ape. Vegeta and Goku have also lost their pupils in moments of rage, but only Trunks is the one that actually attains a powered-up form. Trunk’s most iconic moment in Super Saiyan Rade mode is when he is facing off against Goku Black Rose and Zamasu at the same time. Trunks is able to hold his own while causing some trouble for the other two. It’s hard to say if Trunks is stronger than Goku or Vegeta in Rage form, but the future looks promising for the time-traveling Sayian.
Trunks' Human Side Gives Him More Compassion
Saiyans are known as a warrior race, but Trunks' half Human side tends to interfere with his warrior instincts. Given that his father is such an aggressive and prideful warrior, Trunks gains the majority of his compassion from his mother. Trunks is part of a small group of half-Saiyans with potentially high levels of power, but that strength is balanced by their more humanistic characteristics. Pure Saiyans like Goku and Vegeta are always raring to go for a good fight, but half-Saiyans like Trunks and Gohan are more reserved in their confrontation with others. They only really unlock their true potential when they get over fueled by rage.
Saiyans are a pretty emotional race, so it’s good that half-Saiyans have their human side to keep them in check. Being a half-Saiyan does put Trunks at an advantage when it comes to a fight, and his potential for unlocking new abilities is not surprising, especially since Gohan has seen his fair share of power-ups. Although this makes Trunks seem unreliable in a fight, his ability to know when to fight, and when to be merciful is what puts him at an advantage over his opponent, especially since he’s fully aware of the devastating powers that lurk within him.
Trunks' Super Saiyan Transformation Stimulant
When it comes to achieving the Super Sayian form, emotion is one of the biggest stimulants to attain the power-up. Most of the time, anger is the primary emotion channeled in Saiyans, but for Trunks, his original transformation from Dragon Ball Z: The History of Trunks, explores his transformation in an alternate timeline.
Trunks was introduced as a time-traveling warrior sent to the past to avoid the calamity of the Androids. In his original timeline, the Z fighters are all killed off and Gohan is the only one left to train Trunks. In an unfortunate confrontation with the Androids, Gohan is killed, and Trunks is filled with both anger grief. The combination of the two emotions triggers Trunks’ instincts and allows him to turn Super Saiyan for the first time.
Trunks Achieved Super Saiyan at a Young Age
It’s no surprise that the half-Saiyans contain limitless potential at this point in Dragon Ball, but the fact that all of them could transform into Super Saiyan at a young age raises everyone’s eyebrows. The original lore for Saiyans was that they needed to transform into a Great Ape in order to achieve Super Saiyan and have a tail to show their lineage to the race. Trunks was born without a tail, unlike Gohan, and was able to transform into Super Saiyan without ever sprouting a tail.
Most believe that Toriyama just didn’t want to continue the tail design for future Saiyans, and the fact that he’s half Saiyan could also be the cause of this conundrum. Regardless, seeing Trunks transform into Super Saiyan in front of Vegeta for the first time is absolutely priceless. Not only is the Saiyan Prince shocked at his son’s capabilities, but his pride takes a hit since it took him so long to achieve the form himself.
Trunks Shared A Body With Goten at a Young Age
Trunks and Goten are known for their iconic fusion Gotenks, but the process and experience of being in the same body as someone else is rarely talked about. Sure, Goku and Vegeta have also gone through the fusion process, but they are much older and cognitively stronger, for the most part. Vegeta also hates fusing with Goku and claims that it’s because of the dance, but maybe there are other factors that haven’t been explored.
Trunks and Goten are best friends, so the fact they shared the same thoughts, desires and feelings at one point could be overwhelming for a young child. It almost gets lost in the animation, but they become one whole person with a new set of characteristics and personalities, meaning that they are literally the same person. So, to return from fusion must leave the individual a little disoriented, and make them realize the true feelings of their counterpart. Sharing a body with someone on multiple occasions has to be weird, and there has to be a reason why more characters don’t use the fusion process other than having similar power levels.
