The Dragon Ball franchise has stood out for its combat transformations ever since Dragon Ball Z introduced the concept of Super Saiyan forms. The sequel anime series Dragon Ball Super has gone even further with showcasing new power levels, with protagonists Goku and Vegeta gaining divine combat energy to augment their already impressive Super Saiyan forms while their allies and enemies are similarly upgraded.
For all the franchise has shown so far, there are still many forms that could potentially happen that have yet to appear in the anime or manga. Here are five combat transformations in Dragon Ball that are theoretically possible but have yet to be seen.
Super Saiyan 3 Gohan
One of the strangest transformations introduced in DBZ is the Mystic form taken by Gohan after Elder Kai awakens his latent abilities. While Gohan took on a noticeable energy aura and had his combat strength at least on par with Super Saiyan 3, the young warrior's hair remained black instead of the usual color changes associated with transformed Saiyans. Super took this a step further by revealing Gohan could still transform into his Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2 forms but was at his strongest as a Mystic Saiyan.
With Mystic Gohan capable of standing toe-to-toe in a sparring match against his father at Super Saiyan Blue, it stands to reason that Gohan could transform into Super Saiyan 3. However, this would make him significantly weaker than his Mystic state. With Super Saiyan 3 established as a form that burns through energy at an accelerated rate, Gohan taking on the form simply wouldn't make sense, despite how cool it would look.
Golden Cell
As a synthetic being imbued with the genetic material from many of the strongest fighters in the universe, Cell is capable of unleashing the signature attacks and transformations of all those that make his composite being. While Cell's favorite techniques tend to take after the Saiyan DNA within, from utilizing the Kamehameha Wave to displaying his own variation of the Super Saiyan 2 transformation in a rematch with Gohan, his secret weapon could come from Frieza.
Training diligently after being resurrected at the start of Super, Frieza gained a new transformation that made him significantly stronger in a metallic form aptly dubbed Golden Frieza. If Cell became stronger and chose to tap into Frieza's DNA within him, he could similarly attain his own golden form to take on the Z Fighters for a potential rematch.
Super Saiyan Blue 2
While Super Saiyan God is far stronger than Super Saiyan 3, Goku and Vegeta developed a new transformation after training under Whis and Beerus at the start of Super: Super Saiyan Blue. The form has been described as combining the powers of a Super Saiyan while tapping into the divine combat energies of a Super Saiyan God, creating a far superior transformation.
With this in mind, Goku and Vegeta have both been able to transform into a Super Saiyan 2 for years. While the two warriors have augmented their Super Saiyan Blue transformations through their respective use of the Kaio-Ken technique and Ultra Super Saiyan into variations on Blue, channeling Super Saiyan 2's potential at Super Saiyan Blue may yield even more devastating results.
Super Saiyan Blue Trunks
This is a bit of a cheat since it originates from the non-canonical anime Super Dragon Ball Heroes. However, that series revealed an alternate version of Future Trunks that served on the Time Patrol and was capable of transforming into a Super Saiyan God. This, of course, sets up Time Patrol Trunks for even greater levels of power.
Future Trunks was the second character in the entire franchise seen capable of transforming into a Super Saiyan, completely shocking the assembled Z Fighters upon his debut. With that in mind, Time Patrol Trunks should be able to transform into Super Saiyan Blue after gaining greater mastery over his Super Saiyan God form. With Super confirming Future Trunks could now transform into Super Saiyan 2, Time Patrol could theoretically transform into Super Saiyan Blue 2.
Ultra Instinct Gogeta
Gogeta is one of the strongest warriors in all of Dragon Ball, finally given a canonical introduction in the anime film Dragon Ball Super: Broly after existing for decades in out-of-continuity stories. Formed through the Fusion Dance by Goku and Vegeta, the composite fighter is capable of transforming into Super Saiyan Blue, but the question remains if the character can go Ultra Instinct.
Goku was shown to be able to reach Ultra Instinct, subconsciously tapping into the fuller extent of his divine abilities after being pushed beyond his physical limits. With Goku gaining greater mastery over Ultra Instinct in the manga series, able to transform into the state at will, Gogeta could theoretically overcome Vegeta not being able to reach Ultra Instinct by achieving his own form of Ultra Instinct.
