The Demon Slayer film is a massive hit in Japan, and now it will make its way to the U.S. this year.
Demon Slayer -- Kimetsu no Yaiba -- The Movie: Mugen Train is slated to premiere in U.S. theaters on April 23, courtesy of Aniplex of America and Funimation. Mugen Train will be available in both an English dub and a subtitled version, and will also be available to view in 4DX and IMAX screens; tickets go on sale April 9. To celebrate, Aniplex released a new trailer for Mugen Train, along with an official R-rating for "violence and bloody images."
In addition to a theatrical release, fans will have the option to watch Mugen Train several months later via EST (Electronic Sell-Through), where they pay a one-time fee to download the film digitally. The film will be available for EST starting on June 22 through various digital platforms, with pre-orders beginning on April 26.
"We are thrilled to be bringing Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Trainto theaters in North America," Aniplex president Shu Nishimoto said in a statement. "The support from fans worldwide has truly been the driving force behind the series, and we can’t wait for everyone to experience the next chapter in Tanjiro’s journey as a Demon Slayer."
"Demon Slayer’s record-breaking box office sales in Japan have elevated the series—and anime itself— to a new level," Funimation CEO Colin Decker added. "It is a truly global-scale franchise, and we’re honored to be the home and distributor of the film in many territories worldwide."
Mugen Train takes place after the events of the first season of Demon Slayer, and finds Tanjiro and his fellow Demon Slayers tracking down a demon aboard a train. The film has destroyed records overseas, including the IMAX box office record -- and even surpassed the box office record previously held by Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away.
