Frank Miller -- the legendary creator behind The Dark Knight Returns, 300 and much more -- is launching his own independent publishing company alongside Dan Didio, with new Sin City and Ronin titles soon on the way.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miller will serve as the president and editor-in-chief of the company, named Frank Miller Presents. DiDio, who was co-publisher of DC from 2010 to 2020 alongside Jim Lee, will act as publisher, while Silenn Thomas will serve as COO. "Investing in artists and the future of comics has always been my one true passion and creative calling,” Miller said. “Dan, Silenn and I couldn’t be more proud to be launching Frank Miller Presents, which will serve as fertile ground for storytellers and new creations. Our focus for this publishing company is to cultivate a fellowship of artists and writers to mentor, collaborate and push forward not only each other but the art form as well.”
Frank Miller Presents will produce approximately two to four titles a year. The titles will be both based on Miller's previous works and new projects. Frank Miller Presents announced that one of their first titles will be Sin City 1858, a western set in the Sin City world that Miller formed in the 1990s. The publisher also announced Ronin Book Two, a six-issue sequel to the Ronin miniseries published in 1983.
Announced titles for new Frank Miller Presents publications include Pandora and Ancient Enemies. The publisher has not yet announced the creative team behind any of the projects and it's not yet known if Miller will return to write or draw any titles. Frank Miller Presents is looking to launch its first wave of comics later this year in comic book stores and online. Miller's previous work will remain with its original publishers. “Frank has an incredible vision for this publishing company, which further expands on his commitment to storytelling and characters that connect people around the world,” Thomas said.
Miller got his start in professional comic books when he worked on projects from publishers such as Gold Key, DC and Marvel during the 1970s. He went on to create many widely beloved series for a number of publishers, including The Dark Knight Returns, Daredevil: Born Again, Batman: Year One and many others. The 2000s saw Miller revisit some of his previous work when collaborating on a number of Dark Knight Returns sequels, including Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again, The Dark Knight III: The Master Race, The Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade and Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child. In 2005, Miller made his directorial debut in the film industry when he co-directed Sin City alongside Robert Rodriguez. He followed that up with 2008's The Spirit and 2014's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
