Damian Wayne Gets a Smooch From Flatline in a Romantic Variant Cover

The following contains spoilers for Shadow War: Omega #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

A variant cover for Robin shows off a romantic moment between Damian Wayne and Flatline.

Drawn by Mario Foccillo and posted on Twitter by Robin writer Joshua Williamson, the cover for Robin #15 shows the young protégés making out in front of their respective mentors, Batman and Lord Death Man, who do not seem to be comfortable with what they are witnessing. Williamson shared the art to announce the final order cut-off for the upcoming issue, writing that it "deals with Damian, Talia [al Ghul] and Batman in the aftermath of Shadow War." This issue's solicitation teases the reunion of Damian and Flatline, a return to Lazarus Island and "another shocking revelation."

Flatline's first cameo appearance was in the backup story of Detective Comics #1034. When she made her full debut as a contender in the Lazarus Tournament during Robin #1 by Williamson and artist Gleb Melnikov, she stole Damian's heart (by ripping it out of his chest). Lazarus Island allowed for fighters to be resurrected though, and over the course of the death tournament, the two grew closer, sharing their first kiss at the end of Robin #11.

  • Damian Wayne is back from the Shadow War and licking his wounds the best way a Wayne knows how...brooding (duh). But in light of the shocking death in the al Ghul family, Robin resolves to dig deeper into the world of the Demon...and a return to Lazarus Island—with Flatline at his side—leaves him with yet another shocking revelation!

Since then, Damian's mother, Talia, has expressed that she doesn't like Flatline, to which Damian replied, "I don't care, Mother. I do." As for Damian's father, Bruce Wayne/Batman, Damian caught him so off guard with the news that he accidentally set off a trap in Batman #123.

Of course, though Flatline may like Damian, it seems she also has other motives. Robin #12 ended with Flatline giving Lord Death Man Damian's heart, with the villain revealing that he was after the "Blood of the Demon," something each of the al Ghuls possess. Lord Death Man -- the yoga master villain with a skeleton-like appearance -- is set to appear in future issues of Robin, but whether Issue #15's "shocking revelation" has anything to do with Flatline and Damian's old heart remains to be seen.

What is promised for the upcoming issue is that Damian will be brooding and "licking his wounds" after the recent Shadow War crossover between Batman, Robin and Deathstroke Inc. During the event, Damian lost his grandfather, Ra's al Ghul, and learned that Lazarus Tournament fighter Respawn was his clone brother and the son of Deathstroke, but before he could help Respawn in any way, he was murdered. Shadow War ended with a reconciliation between Damian and Batman, while his mother turned herself in to the Department of Extranormal Operations.

Robin #15 is written by Williamson with art by Roger Cruz and inks by Norm Rapmund. The featured variant cover is illustrated by Mario Foccillo, with other variants contributed to by Lynne Yoshii and Simone Di Meo. The issue is set to go on sale June 28 from DC Comics.
