Cowboy Bebop’s Spike Meets a Friend-Turned-Foe in this Impressive Live-Action Fan Film

Cowboy Bebop: Midnight Rambler, a new fan film from Rogue Origin Films, is an action-packed prequel to the Cowboy Bebop anime series.

Set early in Spike Spiegel and Jet Black's bounty-hunting career, Cowboy Bebop: Midnight Rambler follows Spike on a solo mission tracking down his former partner Tan Strite, who fetches a high bounty for stealing Red Eye drugs from the Red Dragon Syndicate.

The seven-minute film is first and foremost a fighting showcase, with impressive choreography by D.Y. Sao (stunt performer on Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight) and Alfred Hsing (stunt coordinator for Ip Man 3). The score by NΣΣT and Joshua Ginsberg captures the style of Yoko Kanno's music for the original Cowboy Bebop, and the film features faithful recreations of the anime's opening and ending sequences.

Cowboy Bebop: Midnight Rambler is directed by Joshua Mable, whose previous credits include the popular RE:ANIME Hunter X Hunter fan film. Justin Vancho plays Spike, while Kristofer Gordon plays Jet and Alfred Hsing plays the new character of Tan Strite.

Cowboy Bebop will be receiving an official live-action Netflix adaptation later this year, starring John Cho as Spike, Mustafa Shakir as Jet and Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine. For now, the Midnight Rambler fan film can whet fans' appetites for seeing the Bebop crew in live-action.
