Chainsaw Man Creator’s Look Back Gets 2.5 Million Views in 24 Hours

Look Back, the standalone manga from Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, was viewed over 2.5 million times in the 24 hours after its release.

The success of Fujimoto's latest work was announced on Shonen Jump+'s official Twitter. The new, one-shot manga was first announced on July 15 and quickly built up hype based on the love for Fujimoto's previous manga series, Chainsaw Man, which concluded its serialization on Dec. 2020. Shonen Jump+ is publisher Shueisha's online spin-off of Weekly Shonen Jump, and has published many popular manga series including Spy X Family and Kaiju No. 8. Look Back broke the service's previous record for most views in a single day. Fujimoto's manga is also available to read for free in English on Shueisha's Manga Plus website. Shueisha will also release Look Back in print this September.

Look Back tells the story of two aspiring manga artists who are brought together by their love of the medium but eventually drift apart as they get older. The manga has received near-universal acclaim from both fans and professional critics since its release.

In addition to Look Back, Fujimoto also released a new illustration depicting the central characters from the Canadian horror-comedy PG: Psycho Goreman. Fujimoto's most famous work, Chainsaw Man, is currently being adapted into an anime series by Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen studio MAPPA. The series will be helmed by director Ryu Nakayama, who previously worked on shows such as Naruto: Shippuden, Macross Delta and One-Punch Man. The anime currently has no release date.
