Boruto Reveals Kara’s Latest Killer – and Her Devious Powers

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Chapter #57, “Eida,” of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations by Masashi Kishimoto, Mikio Ikemoto, Mari Morimoto and Snir Aharon, now available in English from Viz Media.

Boruto Chapter #57 definitively places Code in a better position than he was in after Isshiki Ōtsutsuki died. The alien transferred his powers to Code, crowning Code as his successor and tasking him with taking out Konoha's elite shinobi. To help his quest, Code's found Boro's secret lair in the snowy mountains and more killer cyborgs he can use.

But rather than focusing on raising a new army, it turns out Code's just interested in one: Eida, an assassin with devious powers that could make her the strongest character in the series.

When Code storms the lab, he has the assistant, Bug, points him to Eida's chamber. Bug warns against opening the stasis pod, but Code chops it open anyway. If Eida rebels, he thinks he can just kill her, but shockingly, Code finds himself completely unable to move. He can't even think of any jutsu, petrifying him inside and out with a panic he's never felt before.

Eida laughs it off, telling him she's not ignoring him, she just needs a bath after such a long sleep. It's eventually revealed why she has this hold over him: she can control the hearts of anyone and everyone. Well, almost everyone, because Isshiki (as her creator) and other Ōtsutsuki aliens are impervious to her aura, as well as her family.

Still, Code's shocked, admitting that, while he doesn't want it, he's enamored. Eida confesses that she mind her power, as it ensures people can't harm her and, with most of the world susceptible, it's an important trump card. It also explains why Isshiki wanted her killed, why Boro couldn't decommission her and why Bug kept looking after her during cryo-sleep.

This sweetens things further because Code didn't know about this ability -- he just focused on the mental advantage of Eida's clairvoyance. Eida can sense everything that has happened since she was created and, while it's never explained whether it's mystical or how long she's been alive, Eida can simply pluck history from her mind, rewinding and watching as if it's a movie. It's how she can sense, right now, what Naruto and the council are doing, and, in the past, how Isshiki died and Kara crumbled.

She's the ultimate surveillance camera to dredge up people's secrets, offering Code eyes on the world, although he's still intimidated by her overpowering aura. That said, it doesn't bode well for Naruto and Sasuke, but seeing as Kawaki and Boruto have Ōtsutsuki DNA in them thanks to Isshiki and Momoshiki respectively, they just became a lot more valuable in the war to come.
