Boruto: Kawaki Just Activated His Secret Weapon Against Code

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Chapter #63 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, “Ask No Questions,” by Masashi Kishimoto, Mikio Ikemoto, Mari Morimoto and Snir Aharon, now available in English from Viz Media.

In the Boruto manga, Kawaki is running out of options with the sinister Code bearing down on Konoha. Kawaki knows Naruto and Sasuke are weak after losing Kurama and the Rinnegan, respectively, so the teen has fled the village, hoping to kill Code himself. However, in Chapter #63, while it seems like Code has gotten the upper hand, Kawaki unknowingly activates his secret weapon against Isshiki's successor.

Boruto tries to intervene and save Kawaki from Code's wrath in the border forest, thinking Code wants to either kill them or use them for the God Tree plan with the Ten Tails. An argument breaks out as Boruto hates how Kawaki ran off alone, thinking he'd be saving Naruto.

Boruto wants to work as a team to protect his father but the plan goes awry as Code continues the onslaught. He's far more powerful, using the White Karma in a much better fashion than Boruto can use his Black Momoshiki mark, leaving Kawaki and the Hokage's son beaten senseless.

However, Kawaki makes a stunning Hail Mary play when he tells Code he'll go with him willingly. He deduces that because Code wants to murder the other shinobi except him, there's a puppet master behind the scenes. This is none other than the cyborg, Eida, proving how intuitive Kawaki is. Code's taken aback but seems to agree with the plea for negotiations, especially as Eida is seeing and hearing the fight.

Eida is in love with Kawaki and thinks he's the perfect mate, so she's very much up for their meeting. It leaves Boruto angry, however, as he feels like Kawaki is sacrificing all their hard work. Still, Kawaki's a chess master and while he doesn't know who this secret boss is, he can tell if he gets them on his side, they could control Code.

It's a very smart, improvised play that Code might not be able to stop, as Eida can make people fall in love with her. More importantly, her god's eye means she can guide Kawaki to intercept his every move and kill Code.

In that sense, Code's now the one in checkmate as he has to listen to Eida, who is offering the strategy and tactics to go after the Hidden Leaf's seniors. As Boruto Chapter #63 ends, though, Code pummels Boruto to bring out Momoshiki, so Kawaki still has work to do if he's to keep Naruto's son alive. He has to be careful in this bargain/trap he's setting to get to Eida in one piece and manipulate Isshiki's 'son,' as one bad move will be detrimental to his loved ones.
