Boruto: After [SPOILER]’s Sudden Death, Naruto Must Work With the Tailed Beasts

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Chapter #55, “Legacy,” of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations by Masashi Kishimoto, Mikio Ikemoto, Mari Morimoto and Snir Aharon, now available in English from Viz Media.

The Boruto manga just shocked fans by killing the Nine-Tails, Kurama, after the demon fox expended its chakra against Isshiki Ōtsutsuki in Chapter #55. For a while, it seemed like Naruto himself would be the one to bite the dust, but this has turned out to be a clever misdirection, albeit a tragic one, as the Hokage has instead lost someone close to him -- again.

He's already lost his parents, Minato and Kushina, as well as his mentor figure Jiraiya. Naruto is older now with a family of his own and should be able to process this death a bit better. Even so, he and Kurama have been together since he was a baby, so fans are left wondering how the leader of Konoha will handle this loss. The answer to that could lie with the other Tailed Beasts.

Naruto is the perfect host, or Jinchūriki, as his dad infused him with Kurama when Obito tried to unleash it on the village. No one understands the physiology more than him, and in the Kaguya War, the beasts all trusted him and him alone. They stored their minds inside him and held a council there, so Naruto does have the option of taking one or maybe even an array of Tailed Beasts into his body.

However, the better and safer bet would be for him to do what Hashirama, the First Hokage, wanted and train people to be vessels so each nation could have assigned protectors and even roving Rangers. They'd be trusted soldiers and allow the shinobi alliance to keep the entities in check. Naruto could sync up both parties and act as the leader of the collective. The free world is still vulnerable as Kara has remnants out there, so this protects the creatures too.

Admittedly, not all of them trust humans, as seen when Urashiki hunted them. He wanted the chakra of Shukaku (the One Tail), which Gaara looks after as its host, but when the big meeting was held, Matatabi, Kokuō and Chōmei abstained. These beasts didn't want to be weapons again or used by someone like Madara to bring back the Ten Tails. However, it'd be great having Naruto use his experiences with Kurama to help the beats overcome this distrust.

He can use Gaara, as well as Killer B and Gyūki (the Eight-Tails), as assistants, sharing their expertise in how to make these super-soldiers. Creating a Bijuu army that could also fight back against terrorists like Kara or Isshiki's alien clan is more important than ever now that Sasuke's Rinnegan is gone. These beasts being free in the wild has long been the bane of the ninja world, so Naruto making some sort of arrangement with them would best assure the safety of all nations.
