Memes featuring Bernie Sanders have taken the internet by storm, and now his infamous mittens have also invaded Studio Ghibli.
Artist Kevin Sukho Lee turned Senator Sanders into an animated Studio Ghibli character and inserted the politician into some of the studio's most popular films. Lee posted these remixed images on Twitter along with the caption, "Am I too late to submit?"

During Wednesday's Inauguration of President Joe Biden, Sanders socially distanced himself from the festivities and attempted to keep warm with his gray winter parka and brown snow mittens. By the end of the inauguration, the Vermont senator had taken the internet by storm, as people all over the world photo edited him into all sorts of scenes from movies, television, pop culture and everyday life.
Eventually, the senator made his way into Studio Ghibli films and can be seen waiting for the Catbus in My Neighbor Totoro and replacing No-Face next to Chihiro from Spirited Away. Lee, the creator of these Ghibli-Sanders remakes is an artist, writer, filmmaker and editor who has worked for DreamWorks and on shows like Craig of the Creek, Apple & Onion, Rocko's Modern Life, Pinky Malinky and Yo Gabba Gabba!.
Once Lee posted his creations, he also unleashed a whole wave of new Ghibli-Sanders memes as other artists and individuals submitted their own creations. Some of these feature Sanders fishing with Totoro, Satsuke and Mei and hanging out with Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service.
