The dub was announced on the same day that Toonami confirmed that it will air The Final Season - Part 2 as part of its late-night weekend anime block. The network previously aired the first half of Attack on Titan's last season in January of 2021. The show is just the latest of several anime series that Toonami has added to its lineup since the beginning of the year, joining the likes of One Piece, the second season of Assassination Classroom, the critically acclaimed fantasy series Made in Abyss, and the brand new video game adaptation Shenmue.
The final season of the series is being produced by animation studio MAPPA, which also created the anime adaptations of Jujutsu Kaisen and the upcoming ballet drama, Dance Dance Danseur. The first three seasons of the show were produced by Wit Studio, the animation house behind Ranking of Kings and the upcoming Spy x Family anime.
Attack on Titan began in 2009 with a manga series created by Hajime Isayama. Isayama initially pitched the series to Japan's most popular manga publication, Weekly Shonen Jump, but was rejected. The series was eventually picked up by publisher Kodansha and Isayama's bleak action/thriller became the surprise hit of the decade. The manga is now one of the most successful series in history, with over 100 million copies in circulation around the globe.
The subtitled version of Attack on Titan: The Final Season - Part 2 is available on Crunchyroll, Funimation and Hulu. Each service hosts a simulcast of the series that streams new episodes every week, shortly after they are broadcast in Japan. Past seasons of the anime are available on a variety of streaming services, including Crunchyroll and Funimation. Isayama's complete manga is now available in English from Kodansha USA.
