Attack on Titan Manga is Set to Release the World’s Biggest Comic Book

As the Attack on Titan manga draws ever closer to its final chapter, the series has been celebrated with an appropriately titan-sized comic that is vying for the position of the world's largest comic book.

As reported by SoraNews24, the comic will be published by Kodansha as a farewell to the series. It is marketed as a comic that would be readable by an actual titan, measuring 101 centimeters (3.3 feet) in length by 71.5 centimeters in width, and weighing in at 13.7 kilograms (30.2 pounds). The monster the comic is supposedly scaled to is in fact the Attack Titan, the 15-meter (49-foot) form used by the series protagonist, Eren Yeager.

The special print will be extremely limited in availability, with only 100 copies planned, at the price of 150,000 yen (1,449 USD). It will contain the first two chapters of the series, and will surpass the current holder of the Guinness World Record for the largest printed comic. At present, that award belongs to Turma da Mônica, which was created by Mauricio de Sousa Produções and published by Panini Brasil in 2018.

The series itself is fast approaching its end, both in the manga and the anime production. The manga, written by Hajime Isayama, is scheduled to release its final chapter in April, bringing about the conclusion to a story 12 years in the making. The anime is also rapidly approaching its end, although questions have arisen as to how exactly it means to cover the remainder of the story. With only 16 episodes announced for the final season, fans speculated it would not have enough time to fully tell the manga's story. Recent reports also suggested Season 4 would not finish adapting the manga material, with no conclusive explanation as to how or if the anime would continue.

The final season saw the production handed over to a different animation studio, transferring it from WIT Studio to MAPPA. In addition to adding different animation styles, such as the incorporation of 3D for the titans, the studio also altered the art. This was particularly noticeable for many of the character designs, despite the time-skip also changing their appearances. The new style more closely adhered to the art of Isayama, although his style has drastically changed since the original chapters. It is this style that fans will be able see in the colossal-sized print, available for orders as of Mar. 6 with estimated deliveries in May.
