Anime producer Michihiko Suwa, of Detective Conan and City Hunter fame, will be joined by writer Toshinari Shinohe and producer Uko Oshia. Suwa will share his thoughts about the upcoming anime and the first look will explore protagonist Kanna’s godly journey and the film’s roots in Japanese mythology.

Kanna is a 12-year-old girl who has gods for ancestors. After her mother passes away, Kanna must fulfill her mother’s mission of collecting offerings for the upcoming gathering of the gods. By completing this important task, Kanna hopes the gods will allow her to be reunited with her mother.  Shiro, a one-winged rabbit and messenger of the gods, and Yato, a demon boy,  join Kanna as she travels to Izumo, a city in Japan's Shimane prefecture. The anime’s posters have promised the inclusion of more traditional Japanese creatures along the way.

The "Kamiari Month" of the title refers to the Japanese belief that gods live within various objects, and every October, these gods all travel to Izumo for a meeting; the month of October is therefore named "Kamiari Month" within the Izumo region, which simply means "the month with gods." In every other region of Japan, October is called "Kannazuki," meaning "the month without gods."

Child of Kamiari Month began as a crowdfunding campaign in March 2019 and ran until June 1, 2021. The anime was originally slated for a 2020 release, however pandemic-related delays pushed its debut back.

Anime Expo Lite 2021 will be streamed on July 3-4 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. PDT (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. EDT). Tickets cost $5 and all profits go to the Hate is a Virus community action fund.

Child of Kamiari Month will debut this year, starring voice actors Aju Makita, Maaya Sakamoto and Spirited Away’s Miyu Irino, with the works of Liden Films representative director Tetsuro Satomi, creative director Kazuya Sakamoto, character designer Haruka Sagawa and writers Tetsurō Takita and Ryūta Miyake.
