Amazon Prime Video has plenty of Evangelion content for fans of the iconic anime franchise to enjoy, including two new documentaries about series creator Hideaki Anno.
The two documentaries -- Hideaki Anno and Hitoshi Matsumoto fireside chat and Hideaki Anno: The Final Challenge of Evangelion -- provide fans a behind-the-scenes look at Anno's creative process. In Hideaki Anno and Hitoshi Matsumoto fireside chat, Anno sits down with fellow anime producer Hitoshi Matsumoto (Documental, FREEZE) "to discuss their respective creative philosophy and approaches, the spread of their work abroad, their future creative endeavors, and more."
The goal of Hideaki Anno: The Final Challenge of Evangelion is "to capture why master filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki (STUDIO GHIBLI) describes [Anno] as one who sheds blood for his films." The documentary explores how Anno developed Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time and includes rare footage of his studio.
These documentaries are two of several new developments that have excited Evangelion fans. Beyond the premiere of Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time on Aug. 13, GKIDS is re-releasing the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime and Anno has teased a possible continuation for the franchise.
Both documentaries can be streamed through Amazon Prime Video for free with a subscription. Moreover, the streaming service also has Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time and the rest of the Rebuild of Evangelion films available on its platform.
