My Hero Academia Chapter 345’s Match-Ups – and What They Mean

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for My Hero Academia Chapter 345, "Division,” by Kohei Horikoshi, Caleb Cook, and John Hunt, available now in English from Viz Media.

The heroes succeeded in their first main goal of the war, separating All For One and Shigaraki Tomura, by pushing the villains through several Warp Gates. The villains were divided into four main groups, each with heroes assigned to tackle them.

Here are the four main fronts of the war, along with the most important heroes present and what their enemies might spell for them.

Dabi vs Shoto Todoroki

Right after the Paranormal Liberation War, Shoto vowed to help his family bring his brother to justice but it looks like he might have to face Toya alone. Shoto followed Dabi through his Warp Gate for their highly anticipated fated battle but this particular front might have several exciting moments. They were transported to Ground Zero of the Kamino incident where Dabi was immediately flanked by several Nomu who presumably answer to him. Shoto might be in for the battle of his life before finally facing his estranged brother.

Of course, Shoto wasn't sent to face Dabi alone. He was joined by heroes such as Iida Tenya, the inheritor of the Ingenium name, and Burnin among others. This team seems made up of heroes with heat-type Quirks, or those speedy enough to dodge Dabi's murderous flames. This battle might be short-lived as Dabi's Cremation Quirk burns through his body as well but carelessness on the heroes' part could spell their doom. Shoto is in the least danger here as his Quirk has evolved to the point where he's virtually immune to flame, but his desire to at least give his brother a shot at redemption might provide an opportunity for Dabi to exploit.

Shigaraki vs Bakugo and Best Jeanist

Shigaraki was transported to a UA High School that is almost unrecognizable in its current state. Principal Nezu boasted when Deku first returned that the school itself was capable of travel, but his genius might have outdone itself here. The entire school building, as well as a large chunk of the grounds on which it sits, is now floating in the heavens, supported by thrusters from below. The most obvious implication of this new setup is that Shigaraki can't threaten bystanders with a widespread Decay attack similar to the one he used during the League of Villains' fight against the Meta Liberation Army.

The plan was for him to face the team of Best Jeanist, Bakugo Katsuki, and Midoriya Izuku. Unfortunately, Deku was snatched up by Himiko Toga at the last minute, so Bakugo and his former master might be a bit shorthanded in their fight. They're not to be counted out yet though as both are respectable heroes in their own right. There's also the case of some mysterious anti-Decay measures a hero let slip while they were rushing villains into the portals. Even with one man down, Bakugo and Best Jeanist are sure to give Shigaraki the fight for his life. And Bakugo might finally get Shigaraki to pay for ignoring him in the previous war.

Himiko Toga vs Uravity, Froppy and Deku

Like the other match-ups that this war birthed, this one has lots of history. The first UA students Toga met were Uraraka Ochaco and Tsuyu Asui, a duo she was instantly infatuated with. In her mind, Toga is friends with both Uraraka and Tsuyu but their feelings towards her aren't remotely in the same ballpark. Toga shares the same delusional relationship with Deku.

When Twice was killed, Toga had a hard time reconciling the ideas that heroes like the ones her "friends" were aspiring to be could act so callous to villains like her. She confronted Uraraka during the Paranormal Liberation War to ask the hero's true sentiments towards her but didn't seem satisfied with the answer. Right now, it seems she may have kidnapped Deku to ask him a similar question; her actions never triggered Danger Sense so Toga means no harm, for now.

Since Dabi gave her Twice's blood, Toga is now fully capable of transforming into her friend and using his Quirk to its fullest extent. She's one of the most dangerous League members right now as a Sad Man's Parade similar to the one Twice unleashed against the Meta Liberation Army might prove too much for even Deku to handle. Toga might not need to resort to her trump card right away though. Like Dabi, she was escorted by a squad of Nomu. As the harbingers and main damage dealers of the League, these Nomu provide the perfect opportunity for Uravity and Froppy to show just how much they've improved through training, even if the duo might not be able to completely beat them.

All For One vs Pro-Hero Army

All For One is certainly the biggest threat in this war and the one who stands to gain the most from it, so it's only natural that the heroes decided to focus the majority of their force on him. He, along with most of the villains he arrived with, was transported to the old headquarters of the Meta-Liberation Army at Gunga Mountain; much too far from UA to summon Shigaraki to his side with his inferior teleportation Quirk.

The top Pro-Heroes were assigned to All For One. Powerhouses of speed and strength such as Endeavor, Hawks, Pixie-Bob, and Fumikage Tokoyami were among those tasked with fighting the villain boss, along with masters of restraint like Kamui Woods and Tiger. All For One poses an inconceivable level of threat owing to his many unknown Quirks but the most immediate danger those battling him face is the loss of their Quirks. Getting in close enough for the villain leader to grasp them would immediately put them out of the fight while granting him yet another Quirk. Should All For One go on the offensive, the heroes might be forced to play the world's most dangerous game of Keep-Away but that's not the only route available to him.

All For One could simply forgo this fight, as he stands to gain nothing from winning it, and travel to Tomura Shigaraki's side instead. Together, the duo is nigh unstoppable and All Might took this into consideration when deciding how to split up the villains. All For One has realized why he was separated from his new body, and if left unobstructed could locate Shigaraki via his Search Quirk and leave to join him. Luckily the heroes already have the perfect people in place to impede All For One's success if he adopted this strategy; Kamui Woods reach spreads 100s of meters in mere seconds while Tokoyami must be chomping at the bit to show off just how much stronger Dark Shadow is now.
