Yashahime: Will the Grim Comet Destroy the Modern Era – Or the Feudal Era?

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 44 of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, "When the Grim Comet Falls," now streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation and Hulu.

After Yashahime's three half-demon princesses arrive in modern-day Japan through the Windmill of Time, they meet up with Mr. Kirin to protect the world from the Grim Comet. Working together to rid the comet of deadly demons and miasma, Towa absorbs the demon energy at risk to her own life while Mr. Kirin successfully stops its advance toward earth.

However, the three cousins are blindsided when Kirinmaru's former right arm suddenly takes the Grim Comet to the feudal era and breaks the Windmill of Time. A wild Episode 44 suggests Mr. Kirin may not be what he seems as a sinister new plan for the comet begins to take shape.

Agreeing to stop the Grim Comet and protect the modern world at all costs, the three half-demon princesses unleash all their strength and demon energy, revealing brand-new moves that Yashahime fans have never seen before. Moroha is able to shoot three purifying arrows simultaneously with the new bow her parents made for her. Meanwhile, Setsuna unleashes a new move called "Vermillion Bird" that takes the form of a flaming bird. After Towa successfully absorbs all of the Grim Comet's demon energy, she sends it back toward the comet using an overpowered move called "Shooting Star Azure Dragon Wave" before collapsing from wielding the Zanseiken.

When Towa finally wakes up from having her Kon drained, Mr. Kirin uses his supernatural strength as Kirinmaru's former right arm to halt the Grim Comet before it makes contact with Earth. As he hears Kirinmaru's voice telling him to take out the half-demon princesses, he manages to resist the orders and refuses to fight them. However, Mr. Kirin declares he'll save Rion himself -- and takes Towa's Zanseiken sword from her without permission.

After claiming he'll be the one to defeat Kirinmaru and become the human race's savior, he takes the Grim Comet to the feudal era through the crack in time and space Kirinmaru created from the Windmill of Time. Before crossing over and abandoning the three half-demon princesses in the modern era, Mr. Kirin ominously declares he'll kill all the demons in the feudal world.

Back in the feudal era, everyone is busy at work fighting off the onslaught of demons entering through the Windmill of Time. Sango makes a thrilling return with her newly unveiled Black Hiraikotsu that single-handedly took out an army of demons. As she and Miroku fight together once again to save the village and its people, they are assisted by their three children and Kohaku. Meanwhile, Kagome and Inuyasha save Kaede's life as the Grim Comet suddenly appears in the night sky, while Rin continues to watch over the unconscious Sesshōmaru in the Tree of Ages.

After Mr. Kirin leaves the modern era, the half-demon cousins finally realize the implications of his words. They begin to question whether he's going to kill all demons in the feudal era -- including their Great Dog Demon fathers. Rushing back to the Tree of Ages to use the Windmill of Time to return home, they realize they're stuck in the modern era. When the Grim Comet destroys the Windmill of Time and Mr. Kirin meets with Kirinmaru for the first time in the feudal era, he shares images he collected in the modern era and offers him the opportunity to destroy the Grim Comet.

Given Mr. Kirin's mysterious reunion with Kirinmaru and his contradictory claims, fans continue to question his true intentions. With the half-demon princesses stuck in modern-day Japan, the Grim Comet threatens to kill all their loved ones stuck in the feudal era. Now that the Windmill of Time is destroyed, Yashahime will have to get creative in order to send the cousins back to join the action.
