The long-awaited premiere date for Demon Slayer Season 2's Entertainment District Arc has finally been announced, alongside the surprise announcement of the Mugen Train Arc, which will re-edit the events of the movie into seven TV-sized episodes.

The highly anticipated Entertainment District Arc will begin airing on Dec. 5. The arc will begin with a special one-hour long episode. Veteran voice actor Miyuki Sawashiro, who previously starred in Bakemonogatari and Durarara!!, will join the series' Japanese voice cast this season to play the role of Daki, one of the show's new antagonists. Japanese pop star Aimer will perform a new opening and ending themesongs for this part of the series. This part of the series adapts one of the most acclaimed arcs from the original manga and will focus on Tanjiro and company as they team up with the Sound Hashira to investigate a series of demon-related disappearances within a large city.

The producers of the show also surprised fans with the announcement of the Mugen Train Arc. The new arc begins airing on Oct. 10 and will re-edit the record breaking 2020 Mugen Train movie into a seven-episode arc, the first episode of which will be an entirely new story that shows how the Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku made his way to the titular Mugen Train. Singer LiSA, who performed the first season's opening theme song "Gurenge," will return to provide new music for this arc.

Both Funimation and Crunchyroll have announced that they will simulcast both arcs of Demon Slayer as they air in Japan. Funimation previously released the Mugen Train movie in theaters and to its streaming service, and will also release the movie on Blu-ray later this year.

Demon Slayer was created by Koyoharu Gotouge and began publication in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016. The series tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, an intelligent and timid teenage boy who comes home one day and is horrified to discover that most of his family has been slaughtered by demons, and his sole surviving sibling, his younger sister Nezuko, has begun the process of transforming into a demon herself. Seeking a cure for Nezuko's curse and wanting to protect others from the demon threat, the kind young Tanjiro decides to take up the sword and become a demon slayer.
