The debut of Miles Morales is coming to its tenth anniversary, and Marvel Comics is celebrating with the double-sized Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30.
The story will be notable for properly introducing a new costume for Miles. Within the context of the story, his former costume was shredded during The Clone Saga, when Miles fought against his deranged clone Selim for the fate of his infant sister, Billie. Needing a replacement, Miles visits his friend Kenneth Kingston, a teenage fashion designer who offers to redesign the second Spider-Man's outfit. The issue hits stands on Sept. 29.
In real life, the new costume is designed by artist Chase Conley. Speaking on what went into it, Conley said, "I wanted to switch it up and give him a different silhouette." The new look is evocative of the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where Miles wore a hoodie, shorts and sneakers over his custom Spider-Man outfit. Conley added, "I just kind of think about what looks cool in motion and movement too, to make him feel more like a spider, a center mass moving, with smaller limbs sticking out."
In addition to a main story from the series creative team of Saladin Ahmed and Carmen Carnero, Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30 will include backup stories from creators like Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, One Night in Miami... writer Kemp Powers and Miles's original co-creator Sara Pinchelli, who will also provide one of the variant covers.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30 is written by Saladin Ahmed, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Kemp Powers, Jeff Loveness and Cody Ziglar, with art by Carmen Carnero, SaraPichelli and Anthony Piper. The cover is created by Taurin Clarke, with a design variant cover by Chase Conley and another variant by Sara Pichelli and Rachelle Rosenberg. The issue goes on sale Sep. 29.
