New cast details and a clip of Sentai Filmworks' English dub of Chihayafuru have been released.
Having previously dubbed Chihayafuru's first two seasons, the American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks is now dubbing the romance-sports anime's third season. In addition to releasing a sneak preview of the dub, Sentai Filmworks has also released a full breakdown of the dub's cast. The complete third season will debut on Blu-ray on July 27 with both the English and original Japanese audio. Pre-orders are currently live.
The newest addition to the ongoing dub's cast is Kelly Greenshield. Greenshield has formerly played supporting roles in Assassin's Pride, Shirobako and Run with the Wind and has provided additional voices in anime like One Piece and Fairy Tail. Greenshield will assume the role of Haruka Inokuma, a retired mother attempting to take back her title as the queen of karuta.
Shannon D. Reed (Baki, Golden Time) is once again acting as the series' English ADR director, and Joel McCray is working as the ADR writer. Jonathan Rodriguez and Patrick Marrero will serve as audio engineers, Brent Marshall will act as a mixing engineer and Katrina Leonoudakis is translating.
Each voice actor in the series' main cast will return with Luci Christian (One Piece, Full Metal Panic!, My Hero Academia), Adam Gibbs (Beyond the Boundary, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, Hyouka) and Blake Shephard (Angel Beats!, Food Wars!, Saint Seiya) reprising their roles as series leads Chihaya, Taichi and Arata respectively. Joining them once more are Juliet Simmons (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun, Akame ga Kill!), Bryson Baugus (Haikyuu!!, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) and Greg Ayres (Break Blade, Free!) as Chihaya's teammates Kana, "Desktomu" and "Porky."
Other returning supporting actors include Maggie Flecknoe (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!) as Chihaya's self-proclaimed rival Sumire, James Belcher (Haikyuu!!) as Chihaya's coach Dr. Harada, Vicki Barosh (009-1) as Chihaya's homeroom teacher Mrs. Miyauchi, David Matranga (My Hero Academia) as karuta master Suo, Gareth West (Haikyuu!!) as the sadist Sudo and Kira Vincent-Davis (Elfen Lied) as the enigmatic queen of karuta Shinobu.
Although originally sold as a series for adult women, Yuki Suetsugu's ongoing manga Chihayafuru has found immense commercial and critical success with many different demographics and has generated three live-action films and a critically acclaimed anime produced by Studio Madhouse. Its story of clueless protagonist Chihaya's quest to become the greatest karuta player in the world and her conflicted feelings for childhood friends Taichi and Arata continues in the anime's third and currently final season.
