Weathering With You tells the story of Hodaka Morishima, a troubled teenager who runs away to Tokyo and meets Hina Amano, a young girl who bears the responsibility of caring for her much younger brother, and who possesses the mysterious ability to clear the sky of clouds when it rains. The two decide to a start a business, using Hina's powers to ensure sunny weather for businesses and weddings, but things get complicated when the police start looking for Hodaka and the side effects of Hina's abilities start to appear.
The movie is the latest work by Makoto Shinkai, who previously directed the critically acclaimed Your Name, as well as films such as The Garden of Words and 5 Centimeters Per Second. Known for his ability to create sentimentally gripping narratives, Shinkai is frequently ranked alongside directors such as Satoshi Kon (Tokyo Godfathers, Perfect Blue) and Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, Belle) as one of the premier anime directors to emerge within the last twenty years.
Weathering With You is also currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
