My Hero Academia: Fumikage Tokoyami’s 5 Best Fights, Ranked

My Hero Academia features an ensemble cast of characters, and while the story's primary focus is Izuku Midoriya, his friends and classmates have more than earned their screentime too. Just as Izuku continues honing his Quirk, One For All, so have naturally talented students such as Katsuki Bakugo and Shoto Todoroki. However, Fumikage Tokoyami and his Dark Shadow Quirk continue to impress throughout the series.

Fumikage is the raven-headed boy of Class 1-A, and his Dark Shadow Quirk is fast, flexible and hard-hitting in most combat situations. While Fumikage has remarkable natural talents, he knows better than to coast his way through his training. Five particular fight scenes show just how powerful he is and how much progress he has made since Episode 1.

5. Fumikage Vs. Moonfish

Fumikage's clash with Moonfish was one of the first instances where the true extent of Dark Shadow's incredible power was shown -- and that it was a double-edged sword. Fumikage's Quirk grows stronger in darkness, but at the same time, it becomes difficult to control and might take over if there is zero light to tame it.

Fumikage had been training up to this point, but when the League of Villains attacked, Dark Shadow went berserk, and everyone had to get clear of it as Fumikage rushed onto the battlefield. Dark Shadow brushed aside Moonfish's sharp, toothy attacks and crushed him, easily demolishing a villain who had been a challenge for even Katsuki Bakugo and Shoto Todoroki. Despite the impressive display, the lack of control was undoubtedly worrisome, and Fumikage knew he had to control his Quirk's true strength.

4. Fumikage Vs. Momo Yaoyorozu

Anime My Hero Academia Fumikage Dark Shadow Versus Momo

During the U.A. Sports Festival, only the 16 strongest students could make it into the final tournament -- and Fumikage certainly earned his place there. His first opponent was Momo Yaoyorozu, who created a metal shield and a rod to fight at melee range and defend herself from Dark Shadow's brutish attacks. However, Momo is better suited to support roles than combat roles as a hero, and this battle proved it.

Not only did Fumikage defeat Momo without taking any damage, but he did so with restraint and precision, knocking her out of the ring without hurting her. He likely did this out of consideration, which reflects well on him, and it proves that he has control over his Quirk during the daytime.

3. Fumikage & Tsuyu Asui Vs. Ectoplasm

During one of the ten 2-vs-1 mock battles that Class 1-A's students fought against their teachers, Fumikage was partnered up with Tsuyu Asui, and they had to take on Ectoplasm together in a circular indoor arena. Fumikage fought well with Dark Shadow against Ectoplasm's many clones, but he wasn't getting nearer to the goal, and at some point, Ectoplasm trapped the two.

Fortunately, Tsuyu had hidden the special handcuffs inside her stomach and covertly passed them to Fumikage. From there, Fumikage engaged Ectoplasm once again, and in the fight, he slipped the cuffs onto Ectoplasm's leg, securing victory for the team. Despite his terrifying appearance, Ectoplasm warmly congratulated his students for a job well done, and no doubt Fumikage was quite proud of himself.

2. Fumikage's Cavalry Team Vs. Other Cavalry Teams

Fumikage generously joined Izuku's team for the cavalry battle of the Sports Festival, even though Izuku had a massive target painted onto his back. Fumikage, Izuku, Mei Hatsume and Ochaco Uraraka formed a flexible team that fought hard to stay out of everyone's reach. Ochaco and Mei provided mobility, while Fumikage used Dark Shadow to fight off other groups.

Fumikage even acted as a shield when Bakugo tried to ambush Izuku, and at the last moment, Fumikage saved the day when Dark Shadow swiped someone's headband to secure enough points for Izuku's team. Of course, Fumikage credited this to Izuku giving him an opening during the chaotic fighting, but really, Fumikage was the team's hero.

1. Fumikage Vs. Shihai Kuroiro & Kinoko Komori

Fumikage teamed up with Momo, Yuga Aoyama and Toru Hagakure against Class 1-B's team, and Fumikage was ready to show off his new moves. Before this fight, he had trained with the pro hero Hawks and learned to soar in the sky with his incredible Dark Fallen Angel technique. Fumikage alone threatened Itsuka Kendo's entire team, and with his finishing move (and the aid of Momo's lucky bag), he cornered Kinoko Komori and Shihai Kuroiro and temporarily captured them.

Unfortunately, Fumikage took them too lightly, and since he didn't knock Kinoko out, she took her chance to weaken him with tiny mushrooms in his lungs. If Fumikage had been a little less gentle, he easily could have secured victory. At any rate, this scene proved how far he has come and showed that the sky could be the limit for this young hero.
