Texas-native singer-songwriter and actress, Kelly Monrow Dowdle, shares a stripped-down version of her latest Southern Rock and Alternative track “Wounds.” The all-around artist, together with Sinclair, delivers a moving performance during the second episode of Cigar Sessions.
During a recent interview, Monrow revealed: “I’ve been working in the studio for over two years now and it’s incredibly powerful. Not only the process and the growth, but I think the most important thing is that I took the leap, I took the risk. Because the truth is I’m not the best singer in the world, and I may not be the best writer, but it doesn’t matter, it’s irrelevant because for me I followed the whisper in my heart.”
She continued: “I followed my passion, I followed my truth, which was really getting in touch with my inner child, and hearing her and following through and committing to the process of what she wants. And as an adult I think sometimes we disconnect from the truth and the most authentic part of out heart because I think we are so conditioned and programmed as children to pick a lane, you want to be a doctor go to med school, you want to do this, you’re this, your label is one thing and that’s a very singular path.”
“Wounds” is from Kelly’s debut album Scars of Venus, which also includes popular tracks like “Mama Said,” “Wake Up,” “Ain’t Mine,” “Jagged Heart” and “The Woman.” Monrow believes that this new record has helped her reflect on her journey as a singer: “It's easy to get caught up in the fast-paced world of the music industry, constantly chasing the next opportunity or success. But it's important to take a step back, and take the time to evaluate our thoughts, feelings, and actions.”
Since the release of Scars of Venus, Kelly Monrow has been busy with multiple performances and appearances all over the country. In addition to working on new music, the Hollywood star is excited about her anticipated horror thriller Three Days Rising. The film is an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher and features Mickey Rourke, Peter Greene, Bo Dietl, and Vincent Young.
