This article contains spoilers for the series premiere of Ms. Marvel, "Generation Why."
The first episode of Ms. Marvel was filled to the brim with Marvel Cinematic Universe Easter eggs for fans to spot and love. However, even more of them were initially supposed to be included.
In the episode, titled "Generation Why," Kamala Khan sneaks out to the inaugural AvengerCon with her best friend, Bruno, in order to participate in a Captain Marvel cosplay contest. The convention, appropriately held at Camp Lehigh, has everything from Captain America cosplayers to a Groot T-shirt to a giant Ant-Man head. "At one point, there was a guy dressed in full Korg [a character in Thor: Ragnarok] cosplay and he couldn’t get through the security barriers," Ms. Marvel head writer and executive producer Bisha K. Ali told TVLine. "That was in a very early draft that no longer exists."
Ali also suggested "winged horse" to represent Valkyrie, an idea which unfortunately also never left the paper drafts. "The bananas first draft of AvengerCon, which will never see the light of day, had everybody in it," Ali said.
With Kamala Khan being a Captain Marvel fanatic, it makes sense for the series to showcase it by having an Avengers-themed convention. Despite some mixed reviews about Ms. Marvel, there has also been praise for the way the show has managed to maintain the quirkiness of the beloved comic while also perfectly embodying the Gen Z experience.
Even with fewer Avengers Easter eggs, Ms. Marvel still cut loose with MCU references, including in its post-credits scene. In the aftermath of what happened at AvengerCon, U.S. Department of Damage Control's Agent Cleary (Succession's Arian Moayed) tells his associate Agent Deever that they need to bring Kamala in.
A recent sneak peek for the series ahead of its premiere involved Kamala's Abu Yusuf showing up in her bedroom in a totally tricked out Hulk costume, with another one for her to wear to AvengerCon: her Ammi Muneeba's one condition for letting her attend.
With star Imani Vellani sharing her character Kamala's avid interest in the Avengers, Ms. Marvel has already gained a reputation for integrating love letters to the MCU, so fans will want to be on the lookout for more Easter eggs in future episodes.
New episodes of Ms. Marvel air on Disney+ every Wednesday.
