The next title in the Pokémon series may see the return of Pokémon riding to the franchise, allowing players to mount the games' respective legendary Pokémon.
As reported by DualShockers, prominent Pokémon leaker Riddler Khu, who has revealed accurate information about upcoming Pokémon games for some time, claimed that the legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will both be rideable. Rideable Pokémon were introduced as a means to navigate the open world of Pokémon Legends Arceus, so it makes sense that the next entry, which seems to be mimicking Arceus' open-world format with an expansive map of its own, would reuse the mechanic.
Riddler Khu's tweet states that they consider both legendary designs "10/10," saying they prefer Violet's mascot (or, in their own words, "I really love grape ver."), but that both Pokémon will be mechanically identical ("Orange functions the same as grape"). While both designs are excellent, Khu states that Violet's legendary has a more interesting and unique motif.
Pokémon Scarlet/Violet was announced in February with a trailer highlighting the new generation's setting, a still-unnamed region based on Spain, and a handful of new Pokémon designs. The starters were revealed -- an adorable fiery pepper-lizard called Fuecoco, a grass-themed kitty called Sprigatito and the odd duck Quaxly -- but the legendary Pokémon and all other new additions to the game are still kept secret.
There have been plenty of Pokémon games released recently to satiate the need for a new game. A remake of one of the series' most beloved eras, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, was released last November. A couple of months later, in January 2022, Pokémon Legends Arceus was released, bringing a new open-world design philosophy to the series, which Scarlet/Violet will iterate on. Both games have received updates -- Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl recently received a new online mode, and both games have recently been updated with Pokémon Home compatibility.
Outside of the initial announcement trailer and some high-quality renders of the new starters, not much has been officially revealed about the upcoming Pokémon generation. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are expected to release sometime in 2022, although some have expressed concern that the release date is too soon because the Pokémon franchise needs time off from constant updates. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch when the games launch.
