Disney reveals the release date for She-Hulk, an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series.
On the company's website, the show is listed as hitting the Disney+ streaming service on Aug. 17, 2022. The show will star Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, Bruce Banner's cousin who becomes She-Hulk after a blood transfusion from the Hulk. Actor Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in the series, with Tim Roth returning as the Abomination from 2008's The Incredible Hulk.
This premiere date arrives after a report claiming that the series would be pushed back until late 2022, with the possibility of not releasing until early 2023. Much like the case was with Thor: Love and Thunder before the film's first trailer released, not much has been seen of She-Hulk, though it is months away. Brief snippets of the series were shown during Nov. 2021's Disney+ Day sizzle reel for the MCU's future projects, but not much else is available as of writing to hold fans over until August.
Some deleted merchandise listings for She-Hulk gave fans their first look at the new hero's super suit and appearance in March 2022, being that the sizzle reel only offered teases for how she will appear in live-action. Similar to WandaVision, episodes of She-Hulk will only run for half an hour each, with 10 episodes total slated for the series' first season. The show is set to be a comedy series with Walters working as a "lawyer specialising in superhuman oriented legal cases."
Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk first appeared in Savage She-Hulk #1 back in 1979, and the character has become a fan-favorite for Marvel Comics readers. Following her involvement in writer Jason Aaron's Avengers run, as of writing, she leads her own title written by Rainbow Rowell with art by Rogê Antônio. Disney+'s She-Hulk will be the first time that the hero is adapted for live-action, but she has appeared in animated projects before, like Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.
Though She-Hulk appeared decades before her, the next Marvel hero to get her own series will be Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel. The lead role of Kamala will be played by actor Iman Vellani, though the character's powers have been changed for the series. Instead of Kamala's polymorph abilities originating from her being an Inhuman, she will be able to create energy constructs as seen in the trailer for the series.
While She-Hulk will not release until August, Ms. Marvel premieres June 8 on Disney+.
