Yashahime: How to Get Started With the Inuyasha Successor

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon is the sequel to Rumiko Takahashi's beloved and long-running series Inuyasha. With the anime now in its second season and the manga receiving a Western release next summer, there's no better time to see what the successor to Inuyasha has to offer.

Whether anime fans are familiar with its iconic predecessor or not, here is how newcomers and veterans alike can watch and read Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon.

The Plot of Yashahime

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon follows twin sisters Towa and Setsuna, the half-demon daughters of Sesshomaru and Rin. As young children, Towa and Setsuna were caught in a forest fire and got separated while trying to escape. Towa suddenly found herself transported from Feudal Japan to modern-day Japan, leaving her sister behind. She was taken in by Sota, Kagome Higurashi's younger brother, and spends the next ten years living in the present. That is, until the famous portal from Inuyasha suddenly reopens.

Towa is finally reunited with Setsuna, who's since become a demon slayer under Kohaku, Sango's younger brother. The happy reunion is short-lived when it becomes clear Setsuna has no memory of her twin sister. The two of them, joined by their cousin Moroha -- the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome -- travel between the two eras in hopes of recovering Setsuna's memories. On their adventures, they slowly unravel the mysteries of their pasts and the legacies of their parents.
