With the start of a new cycle with the year of the rat, 2020 brings the promise of new beginnings and fortune. Among the new beginnings this year, fans of My Hero Academia were pleased with the start of a new season and semester for the UA students. Throughout the season, many new characters were introduced and viewers received deeper insight into some of the older cast.
Horikoshi has proven his aptitude for character creation time and time again, and this season is no exception. In fact, unlike most shounen series, the author has produced a host of female characters as iconic as - if not more than - their male counterparts. With so many fan-favorite girls, you can easily find an MHA girl that matches each of the 12 Chinese zodiacs in this list.
12 Rat: Momo Yaoyorozu
Starting with our current year, those born into the rat zodiac are known to be clever and adaptable in their quick thinking. It is this zodiac's sharp observations and diligence that allows it to take advantage of any opportunity.
Over the past four seasons, we've seen Yaoyorozu go beyond the studious intelligence required by her quirk in her battle strategies. This young hero is as resourceful as the rat and just as fit for administrative roles, making her the perfect representative of this year.
11 Ox: Nana Shimura
In Chinese culture, the ox represents diligence, hard work, and responsibility. With her strong sense of justice and dependable nature, the former successor to One for All represents some of the more prominent attributes of this zodiac.
From the information provided within the manga, it becomes clear that Shimura also attaches great importance to her family and work like other oxen, though from her son's perspective it seems she prioritized the latter to the point of losing the former.
10 Year of the Tiger: Himiko Toga
This young villain always radiates with energy whenever she's on the screen or page, much like those born in the year of the tiger. Toga's tireless nature when it comes to pursuing what she wants may be scary to see when coupled with a knife and a menacing smile, but those are some of the most formidable attributes of this zodiac.
While she may not have sharp claws, her sharpened blade and lively personality make the blood-thirsty blonde a perfect representation of tiger zodiacs.
9 Rabbit: Ibara Shiozaki
We are first introduced to Ibara during the Sports Tournament arc. Despite her brief presence, we quickly learn some of the key characteristics of her personality which are reflective of the rabbit zodiac.
The green-thumbed hero gives off the image of reserved elegance and a gentle nature which quickly leads her opponents into underestimating her. Much like Denki, however, those that make the mistake of underestimating the rabbit are quick to suffer a humiliating defeat.
8 Dragon: Rumi Usagiyama (Mirko)
Bold, strong, and independent, this hero might take on the form of a rabbit but she has the heart of a dragon. Like many born to this zodiac, Mirko exhibits confidence in her abilities that allows her to face any challenge thrown her way with unyielding courage and tenacity.
Her strong personality may be taken by some to be a sign of aggression or arrogance, but the Pro Hero has a good heart beneath her scales like other dragons.
7 Snake: Tsuyu Asui
While snakes are often given a bad reputation, the creature represents experience and calmness. With her mature nature, Asui has been seen to act as a voice of reason on multiple occasions.
Additionally, the frog-like hero is notably calm and collected in the face of struggle which allows her to plan her actions more strategically like most snakes. Overall, it seems that Asui brings out some of the best traits of both reptiles and amphibians.
6 Horse: Mina Ashido
With Mina's animated and jovial attitude, it is hard to imagine any other girl within the series better fit to represent those born in the horse year. This zodiac is known for enjoying being part of the crowd and taking center stage much like the acid hero. Mina's personality is often viewed as the perfect personality for a Pro Hero, and for good reason. Her selflessness and earnest desire to help are all both integral characteristics of a horse zodiac and a good hero.
5 Goat: Ryuko Tatsuma (Ryukyu)
Those born in the year of the goat are characterized by a gentle and mild-mannered nature not unlike the dragon hero. While her scales may seem sharp, Ryukyu's humility and earnest desire to help reflect some of the best attributes of goats.
Additionally, within the Overhaul arc, Ryukyu additionally has a notable soft spot for children based on her reaction to Eri's state - a common attribute in this zodiac. All in all, it seems that the dragon hero has a heart as soft as a goat's.
4 Monkey: Mei Hatsume
While she isn't a frequently seen character, both Mei Hatsume and her "babies" are unforgettable in every appearance. Mischievous, crafty, and always ready for a new challenge, the pink-haired genius perfectly represents this zodiac. She is also no foreigner to some of the monkey's downfalls as she can get carried away with her enthusiasm and good humor from what we've seen Iida be subjected to during the Sports Tournament arc. Perhaps that's a small price to pay for her inventions though.
3 Rooster: Nejire Hado
Those born in the year of the rooster tend to be popular for their enthusiasm and amusing personality, and Nejire Hado perfectly encapsulates that. It took more than just a charming personality to make the young hero one of UA's "Big 3" and a representative of this zodiac, however. While she is optimistic and charismatic, viewers will also notice that Hado is quite fierce when it comes to her work as a hero not unlike other roosters.
2 Dog: Manami Aiba (La Brava)
While this eccentric villain sidekick's appearance on the series was shortlived, she quickly became an unforgettable character with her loyalty and dedication to Gentle Criminal. La Brava's refusal to abandon the villain and sincere desire to make him happy makes her someone with which dog zodiacs should empathize and find themselves reflected.
1 Pig: Ochaco Uraraka
While people of this zodiac may not stand out in the crowd, their diligence and commitment to their goals set them apart much like this young hero. Ochaco shares much with this zodiac from her energy to her frugal nature.
Additionally, while she is never one to shy away from extending a helping hand, Uraraka prefers to do things by her own efforts as viewers can see in her rejection of Midoriya's offer to help her strategize during the sports tournament. All of this makes the fan-favorite character a perfect representation of this zodiac.
