Jujutsu Kaisen was arguably one of the best anime of the Winter 2021 season. The first season ended on a very high note, leaving fans eager for more. Unfortunately, while a second season has been teased, a release date has not yet been announced but, in the meantime, we won't have to wait too long for more Jujutsu Kaisen content. A movie set for release later this year is also on the way.
Rumors of an upcoming movie first started to circulate across social media when eagle-eyed viewers noticed that a domain name for a Jujutsu Kaisen movie had been registered. The domain was registered to the same postal code and address as the anime’s official website, lending more credibility to the theorists' claims.

A few hours before the season finale aired, the official Jujutsu Kaisen Twitter account confirmed the rumors. Not much is known about the movie just yet, but we do know the production will be handled by the MAPPA, who delivered both Attack on Titan: The Final Season and, as previously mentioned, Jujutsu Kaisen's recently-ended first season.
We also know that the new movie will be based on Jujutsu Kaisen 0 -- a prequel manga to the main story explored in the anime. It will center on Yuta Okkotsu, who, by the events of the first season is a second-year student at the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School. His character has been referenced in passing a number of times in the anime and each time he is spoken of very highly by his peers and seniors alike.
The Cursed Child arc, which runs from Chapters #0-4 of the manga, focuses on the circumstances surrounding Yuta’s admission into Jujutsu High, as well as some of his first year at the school. This means fans can expect the current second years, Maki, Panda and Inumaki, to feature in the movie, as well as a possible appearance from the strongest jujutsu sorcerer: Gojou Satoru.
Yuta Okkotsu's absence from the first season of the anime was explained as him being on a top-secret mission. The movie might also shed a little more light on the mission entrusted to him, as well as lay the foundation for his possible appearance in later seasons of the anime. Yuta was an adept enough jujutsu sorcerer to have his abilities commended by Gojou, so it’s likely the mission he’s working on is important enough to have major implications on the overall story going forward.
