Dragon Ball's Goku and Naruto are two of the most popular characters in all of anime and manga. While the two are dissimilar in many ways, they do share some pretty surprising similarities in both how they act and who they are. In this new exclusive video, we're going to lay out ten ways Goku and Naruto are similar that might surprise you.
The first has to do with their origins. When creating Dragon Ball and Goku, Akira Toriyama drew from The Journey to the West, which features the Monkey King as its protagonist. A lot of elements of Journey to the West made it into Goku's final design, but he was intended to originally be more animalistic -- his Great Ape form notwithstanding. Naruto, for his part, started out life as an actual demon fox in the form of a human. Masashi Kishimoto's original Naruto one-shot actually kept that element in tact, and it went over well with fans. However, Kishimoto eventually opted to change this element of his most iconic character.

Dragon Ball Super was the most recent installment in the franchise, not counting the original net animation Super Dragon Ball Heroes. Although it's unclear just when -- or if -- the series will return, the Dragon Ball franchise is popular, so it's unlikely to stay gone for long. The manga currently expands on the ending of Dragon Ball Super, taking Goku and Vegeta into space to fight against the energy-absorbing Moro. However, it's unclear if when the anime returns it will actually pull from that plotline. As for Naruto, that series' story continues in Boruto, which follows the adventures of the son of the original series' titular ninja.
