Funimation has officially confirmed that Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut (originally published under the title Tsuki to Raika to Nosuferatu or The Moon, Laika, and the Bloodsucking Princess in Japan) will be a part of the streaming service's fall 2021 anime lineup.
The vampiric science fiction anime will be one of many series premiering on Funimation this fall, alongside Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside, RUMBLE GARANNDOLL, The Vampire Dies in No Time and the second seasons of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation and Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon.
Produced by studio Arvo Animation (Monster Girl Doctor), Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut presents an alternate history of the world post-World War II, where vampires are forced to serve as test pilots for experimental rockets during the space race. The anime is directed by Akitoshi Yokoyama (Wolf's Rain, Photo Kano) with Hiromi Kato (Needless, I'm Gonna Be An Angel) designing the characters and Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Black Bulter: Book of Murder) composing the music.
The cast includes several popular, experienced voice actors like Megumi Hayashibara (FLCL Progressive, One Piece) as the titular Irina Luminesk, Kōki Uchiyama (My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen) as Lev Leps and Satoshi Hino (Haikyu!!, Vinland Saga) as Mikahil Yashin.
Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut is expected to premiere on Funimation sometime this October.
