UPDATE #2: The New Mutants is still available for pre-order on Amazon in the United Kingdom.
UPDATE #1: The link to pre-order The New Mutants has been taken down from Amazon. The online retailer cited its agreement with the content provider as the reason for the removal.
The New Mutants is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Those who want to lock in their copy of the Marvel film can purchase it in HD or SD for $25.99.
As of this writing, the film is not available for pre-order on other sites, including Apple TV/iTunes, Vudu, FandangoNOW and Google Play.
The New Mutants was one of the many films that was delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak. However, while other Disney and Fox films landed new release dates, The New Mutants never received a new theatrical premiere date. The posting on Amazon indicates that the film may skip theaters entirely in favor of a VOD release.
Even before the pandemic hit, The New Mutants faced delay after delay. Originally slated to debut in April 2018 for Fox, it was pushed back to February 2019, and then again to August 2019. Once Disney purchased Fox, it was rescheduled again, this time to April 3, 2020, right when the coronavirus outbreak hit the U.S.
If the film does skip theaters, it would not be the first major theatrical release to do so. Universal released Trolls World Tour on VOD, earning the outrage of AMC Theatres in the process. Warner Bros. is doing the same for Scoob and Disney plans on releasing Artemis Fowl on Disney+ in June.
Directed and co-written by Josh Boone, The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
