Universal Studios Japan revealed that fan-favorite Attack on Titan and Sailor Moon attractions will return for Universal Cool Japan 2022.
During the annual event, Universal Studios Japan sets up rides and experiences based on Japanese media ranging from anime to films and video games. As reported by Natalie, one ride confirmed for this year is the popular Attack on Titan XR Ride, a virtual rollercoaster. By putting on VR headsets, fans can experience the world of Attack on Titan as they travel across the famous walled city in a horse-drawn carriage. The peaceful ride is soon interrupted, however, when Titans break through the walls, causing the carriage to fly beyond the confines of the city as members of the Survey Corps are deployed to bring down the giants. Fans can also further immerse themselves in the experience through purchasing Survey Corps gear, coats, jackets, cloaks and replica swords that will be available for sale.
Another ride that is set to return is the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon The Miracle 4D: Moon Palace Chapter theater show. While some fans may have seen the show when it debuted in 2019, this year's show will have an additional scene of the Sailor Guardians attending a ball. Special environmental effects will make it seem like viewers are actually within the hit series' world, seemingly able to interact with Sailor Moon herself.
With the second part of the final season premiering on Jan. 10, hype for Attack on Titan is bigger than ever as the anime thunders towards its conclusion. All four seasons of the anime have received acclaim from critics and audiences alike due to its engaging storyline, stellar animation, well-rounded characters and smooth action sequences. In fact, Attack on Titan was the most viewed TV show in the United States when the first half of the final season was airing in 2021, until The Falcon and the Winter Solider usurped the title shortly before the last episode premiered. The Attack on Titan manga is also one of the best-selling manga series in history, with over 100 million volumes in circulation worldwide as of Dec. 2019.
Sailor Moon has also enjoyed great success, with the shojo juggernaut still thriving today since the manga began its serialization in Nakayoshi magazine in 1991. Garnering around $13 billion in merchandise sales worldwide to date, the series has sparked multiple anime, stage musical, live-action and video game adaptations. A Sailor Moon ice skating show starring Evegnia Medvedeva was announced on June 30, 2019, and is set to premiere in June 2022 after being postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Attack on Titan XR Ride and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon The Miracle 4D: Moon Palace Chapter attractions will run from March 4 to Aug. 28 at Universal Cool Japan 2022.
