UMEK drops a very special release on his label 1605 featuring a three-way techno collaboration that sees him join forces with POPOF and Space 92.
The three titans of the techno world have individually put their stamp on the genre. Space 92 has been one of the biggest breakthrough talents of the last few years, and is currently one of the top-selling artists on Beatport.
POPOF is now something of a veteran, and is one of the most respected French artists in all of the world. Known not only for his charismatic DJ sets, but also for his releases on labels ranging from Filth On Acid to his own imprint FORM.
Needing little introduction, UMEK is a godfather of the European techno scene who has been at the top of his game since the ’90s. One of the world’s most accomplished DJs and producers, he has headlined festivals, and released tracks on iconic record labels.
Space 92 and POPOF have collaborated before, but this is the first time they have also joined forces with UMEK, and this three-way collaboration is everything you would expect from such a high-profile trio.
Fans of 1605 will remember Space 92’s previous solo tracks on the label, and UMEK has made the imprint a regular outlet for his music, but this is a landmark debut appearance from POPOF.
The release’s solo track titled “Control” has a dramatic opening with its pulsating bassline and thundering kick drum augmented with rattling high-end percussion. Ramping up the intensity, the track unfolds with a blend of explosive textures that add enthralling suspense to the dark and brooding atmosphere. Lifting up a gear when the percussion comes crashing back in, it introduces flickering acid stabs to maintain terminal velocity.
