While Will Arnett (BoJack Horseman, The Lego Batman Movie) is set to voice franchise mascot Sweet Tooth in Peacock's upcoming series adaptation of PlayStation's Twisted Metal, the character will be physically portrayed by none other than independent wrestling legend Samoa Joe.
As announced by Peacock, Twisted Metal will feature Samoa Joe -- real name Nuufolau Joel "Joe" Seanoa -- as the physical body of Marcus "Needles" Kane, better known as Sweet Tooth (after his signature ice cream truck). A "hilarious and terrifying hulk of a man," Sweet Tooth is described as being "emotional as he is cunning. A lover of chaos, this majestic rage-filled killer dons an ever-smiling clown mask and uses 'Lost Vegas' as his own personal kill-ground, all while he drives his infamous doomsday ice cream truck."
As Samoa Joe, Seanoa made his professional wrestling debut in late 1999. Since then, has wrestled for several prominent promotions, including Ring of Honor (ROH), Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA)/Impact Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Most recently, he began performing for All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He is also set to voice the character of King Shark in the upcoming DC video game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Seanoa and Arnett are part of Twisted Metal's main cast, which also includes executive producer Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as John Doe, Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto) as Quiet and Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man: No Way Home) as Agent Stone.
That being said, Peacock has also just announced four new guest stars that will appear in Twisted Metal. The show will feature Richard Cabral (Mayans M.C.) as Loud, Quiet's brother; Mike Mitchell (The Tomorrow War) as Stu, Mike's best friend; Tahj Vaughans (P-Valley) as Mike, Stu's best friend; and Lou Beatty Jr. (NCIS) as Tommy, grizzled and weathered cartographer. Cabral, Mitchell, Vaughans and Beatty join previously-announced guest star Neve Campbell (Scream), who is set to play Raven.
Twisted Metal began as a series of PlayStation-exclusive vehicular combat video games. The original game, simply titled Twisted Metal, released for the original PlayStation in 1995. Three sequels -- Twisted Metal 2, Twisted Metal III and Twisted Metal 4 -- subsequently released on the platform in 1996, 1998 and 1999, respectively.
The series made the jump to the PlayStation 2 in 2001 with Twisted Metal: Black. That same year, a spinoff game titled Twisted Metal: Small Brawl released for the original PlayStation. The main series continued with Twisted Metal: Head-On, which released for the PlayStation Portable in 2005. An updated version for the PS2 titled Twisted Metal Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition followed suit in 2008. Most recently, a Twisted Metal reboot released on the PlayStation 3 in 2012.
Peacock's Twisted Metal is one of several PlayStation-based shows sit to hit screens in the near future. HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us is currently expected to premiere in 2023, while shows based on God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn are in the works for Prime Video and Netflix, respectively. As far as the big screen goes, a film adaptation of Uncharted released earlier this year, with a movie based on Gran Turismo currently in early development.
