With the first season of Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy concluding on Sept. 22, a second season for the alternate-world, fantasy anime has already been confirmed and a teaser trailer has been released.
The trailer gives fans a brief preview of what to expect in Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy's second season, and while exact details about the new season are not currently available, more information will be provided by the anime's official website and Twitter account at a later date.
The original light novel series of the same name by Kei Azumi and Mitsuaki Matsumoto was first published online in 2012 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō, before moving to the AlphaPolis website in 2016. A total of fifteen volumes of content have been published since 2013.
Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy's story follows protagonist Makoto Misumi, an ordinary high school student who is all of a sudden transported to another world to become a hero; however, he is stripped of the title and cast to the wilderness at the edge of the world because he does not meet the goddess' expectations. Eventually, it is revealed that Makoto is able to unleash unimaginable magical and combat abilities, and using his newfound powers, he endeavors to make the world a better place despite being rejected by the gods.
Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy has gained a substantial fan following, with 1.4 million copies currently in circulation, and it has inspired multiple adaptations. A manga series by Kotora Kino has been ongoing since 2015 and the ninth volume was published by AlphaPolis on July 9. The anime adaptation premiered on July 7 on Tokyo MX and other channels in Japan, with Crunchyroll licensing and streaming the show outside of Asia. The show is currently available in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
Animation studio C2C (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina, Shachibato! President, It's Time for Battle!) animated the first season of the series with Shinji Ishihira (Edens Zero, Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table) serving as the chief director, Kenta Ihara (Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious, Vinland Saga) supervising and writing the scripts, Yukie Suzuki (Fight League: Gear Gadget Generators, Blue Exorcist) adapting Matsumoto's original character designs and Yasuhara Takanashi (Fate/Grand Carnival, Beyblade D Revolution) composing the music. It is not yet known if the same creative team will be involved with the second season.
Currently, there is no information about when Season 2 of Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy will premiere, but Season 1 of the anime can be streamed on Crunchyroll, Medialink and the Ani-One YouTube Channel through its Ani-One Ultra Membership.
