Tsuda Naokatsu is best known for working on several of the famous JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, and coming soon, in January 2022 to be specific, he is releasing a series that has fans excited. Tokyo 24th Ward is a completely original series, not based on a manga or any other property. While some fans have trepidation about such a series, others are eager to see how Tsuda will handle the project.
The story follows three young men named Shuta, Ran and Koki -- childhood friends and residents of the artificial island, the 24th Ward, in Tokyo Bay. The three of them grew up together and have remained life-long friends, but even the strongest friendships can face pressure when put to the test. Everything takes a turn for the worse after a life-changing event. One year later, during a memorial service of that tragedy, the three receive a mysterious call from a supposedly dead friend who demands that they make "a decision about the future." Perturbed by such a mystery, the three of them do what they think is best to protect the 24th Ward and its citizens.
Anime fans are excited about Tokyo 24th Ward not only because it has some truly stunning artwork but also because of the dream team behind its production. Tsuda has shown a deft hand with his work on Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, but the proverbial buck does not stop there. Shimakura Vio of Nitro Plus (known for visual novels) is in charge of the script, and the stellar animation is headed by the illustration team Fifs; and, of course, CloverWorks is the head honcho. CloverWorks has an impressive anime resume with such hit series as Darling in the Franxx and Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia (a mouthful of a title, to be sure, but loved nonetheless).
Looking at the character designs, it's no surprise that this series is being met with such anticipation, especially among many female anime fans. A series in which the main male leads are all bishonen is often welcomed, especially in a fandom such as anime, where bishoujo characters are the bread and butter of the industry. Pretty boys in anime are nothing new, but it's always nice to see a series where they are the focal point.
The trailer shows the chops of its creative team by ensuring a sense of intrigue, posing the kinds of questions that whet the viewers' appetite for a story filled with twists and turns. The trailer of Tokyo 24th Ward shows how bright and vibrant the colors and character designs are while also taking place in a shabby, almost post-apocalyptic world, which will please fans of dystopian science fiction anime. Moreover, the music, composed by Fukasawa Hideyuki (of Fate/stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works and Flowers of Evil fame) will add to the atmosphere of the series.
While anime fans will have to wait a little longer for the release of the series, considering the promising trailer, Tokyo 24th Ward seems like it will be well worth it.
