Thor 4 Fan Edit Reimagines Christian Bale as a Comics-Accurate Gorr

A fan edit has transformed Christian Bale's look as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder into a comics-accurate portrayal.

Twitter user @AnotherMarvelGuy shared stills of Bale's Gorr from the film's recent trailer with a few slight differences. His new appearance better resembles Gorr's Marvel Comics counterpart as a uniquely alien creature with two head tails instead of humanoid ears and a smooth mound where a nose would be. Though the edit's original artist is unknown, the Twitter user polled their followers on which they preferred: the movie version, the comics-accurate edit or neither. As of this writing, over 60% of users said they prefer Bale's official Gorr look.

Although the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer doesn't give away too much of the God Butcher's motives or abilities, it's clear he is a threat to all of the known deities of the MCU. In the trailer, he can be seen facing off against Thor evenly with nothing but a grim-looking sword.

In the comics, the creature who would become the God Butcher was born on an unnamed planet. Taught to put faith in the gods, he experienced many hardships such as the untimely deaths of his parents, his partner and their children. When a battle between two gods caused one of them to crash onto Gorr's planet and beg for aid, he killed the wounded god with a fluidlike black sword. Bale's Gorr has been shown wielding a large blade, but it's still unclear if its true identity is All-Black the Necrosword.

How much of Gorr's movie backstory will follow the comics is unclear. Other aspects of the film are reported to be very close to the source material, such as Jane Foster's comics storyline. While Gorr makes several references to the selfishness of gods in the trailer, no one knows just how far the God Butcher is willing to go in his pursuit of their annihilation.

Gods are nothing new to the MCU and the Thor movies especially, but they've never been introduced in such high numbers. In several scenes, Thor, Jane Foster and King Valkyrie can be seen interacting with other gods, even those outside of their pantheon. There are also references to even higher powers of the MCU teased throughout the trailer.

Thor: Love and Thunder crashes into theaters on July 8.
