WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 11 of The Slime Diaries, "Where Is Santa Claus?" now streaming on Crunchyroll.
Geld is one of the hardest working monsters in Rimuru Tempest's council, from constructing new roads by hand to building anything Rimuru requests on a whim. His personality definitely keeps everyone at bay -- he's quiet, slightly brutish and rarely has visible reactions. That's why it's surprising that The Slime Diaries Episode 11 gives him some character development through an endearing bond.
Throughout the spin-off, Geld has been seen surrounded by goblin children who love to climb him like a giant tree. For some reason, the children are absolutely compelled by him and his sternness, seemingly perceiving it as fun and silly. But one goblin child stands out as really caring about Geld, often seen with him or looking for him. Now at the Christmas Festival, their friendship truly blossoms.
In The Slime Diaries Episode 11, Rimuru stumbles upon the young goblin girl alone at the Christmas Festival. She looks lost at first glance but she's really looking for Geld, who is alone shoveling snow outside the festival. Somehow, most likely by the guiding hands of Rimuru, she finds Geld. It's plain as day on her face that she's ecstatic to see him. After he greets her in his usual silence, she hands him a pinecone necklace that looks to be made by hand.
Soon after, Geld carries the girl back into the Christmas festival, where he hands her a freshly carved statue of herself made from a piece of wood. He returns the favor of a homemade present quite quickly, much to her delight. It's an adorable exchange that warms the heart, considering the vast differences between them. And with the Christmas festival being a newly introduced event through Rimuru, that pinecone necklace is likely Geld's first-ever holiday gift.
Geld's relationship with this young goblin girl is highly endearing. She shows him public love and affection, which many others may have feared to do because of his overall demeanor. But she is always looking for him and hanging out with him. It's notable that this is often in silence as Geld rarely talks, but that doesn't bother the girl at all. If anything, it seems like she finds some kind of solace in his quiet manner.
Their relationship may seem to be contrived for the sake of the spin-off, but it provides Geld a measure of character development. Working with children brings out a gentler side of him that we rarely get to see in the original anime, That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. While it's a small detail in the overall plot of The Slime Diaries, Geld's relationship with this little goblin girl is a good thing for both of them. She gets a strong, protective guardian, and he gets some well-deserved love and affection.
