The trailer for Season 3 of The Boys was reportedly flagged for content on Twitter over 20 million times, but rather than being alarmed about that reception, the show's social media managers seem to be taking it as a metric of success.
The Boys' official Twitter shared a graphic noting the statistics for the teaser, which was released on March 12 and teases new plot developments to a backdrop of nonstop chaos, lewdness and gore. In addition to the item "Flagged for content 20,093,031 times," the tweet boasts, "A record 603 views by The Boys Twitter admin" and "We're pretty sure Seth Rogen watched it." An image of Karl Urban as Billy Butcher taking a casual sip from a mug shows a nonchalant attitude toward the content flags, along with a caption reading, "Everyone's raving that the Season 3 teaser is 'deeply unhinged' and asking 'what the f*ck did we just watch?'"
There's also a reference to an exchange with Taika Waititi that took place between the two Twitter accounts, with Waititi responding "Fokk yeeeeaaas" to the trailer, prompting The Boys to ask the Thor: Love and Thunder director for a trailer in return.
As for Seth Rogen, he confirmed that he had watched the trailer in a direct response to the tweet, and although he didn't divulge any thoughts about it, his involvement in the animated spinoff The Boys Presents: Diabolical makes it fair to assume that he's a fan.
The Boys, based on the comic series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, is a satirical look at the superhero genre set in a world where "supes" have extraordinary powers and enjoy endless fame and fortune, but are apathetic and corrupt in their private lives. This is especially true of the highly publicized team called The Seven, who are funded by a manipulative corporation known as Vought International and led by the most powerful -- and most depraved -- supe, Homelander. Working underground to expose The Seven are the titular Boys, who have organized under the vengeance-obsessed Billy Butcher.
For those who are ready to watch no matter how many times it's flagged for content, The Boys Season 3 will hit Prime Video on June 3. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on the platform now.
