Sunrise Beyond and BANDAI SPIRITS recently announced a new joint project in the mecha anime genre, Koukai Senki, set for release this fall.
The new anime series takes place in Japan in the year 2061, a time in which the country has become home to war and oppression. That is until a young Japanese boy by the name of Amo Shiiba decides to do something about that, alongside the AMAIM war machine he recently acquired. However, Amo Shiiba isn't the only boy in Japan with a goal for ending the sad state of his country.
There is another boy fighting alongside the Japanese resistance who pilots an AMAIM war machine of his own: a teenaged boy named Geshin Tezuka. Unlike Shiiba, however, Tezuka's goals are far from noble, as he is actually seeking revenge for the death of his father at the hands of an unknown killer. BANDAI SPIRITS released a teaser trailer introducing the character designs for the main characters of Amo Shiiba and Geshin Tezuka, as well as the mechanical designs by Ken Okuyama.
The crew for Koukai Senki is being led by a few veterans in the anime industry, such as animation director Nobuyoshi Habara and character designer Kenichi Ohnuki. Other crew members include script supervisor Noboru Kimura and Swedish music composer Rasmus Faber.
As a veteran of the anime industry, Nobuyoshi Habara is no stranger to the mecha anime genre. Earlier in his career as an animator, Habara worked on the American animated series The Transformers, which ran from 1985 to 1986. His other credits in the mecha anime genre include Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack and the Broken Blade series. Haraba has also worked on other high-profile anime series such as Love Hina Again, D.N. Angel, Shaman King, Mega Man and Star Blazers series.
Like Haraba, character designer Kenichi Ohnuki is also a veteran of the anime industry who has also worked on his fair share of mecha anime, most notably the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. His credits include Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, Mobile Suit Gundam See Destiny and Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space, among many others. In addition to his work on the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, Ohnuki has also worked on other high-profile anime such as Urusei Yatsura 3: Remember My Love, Bubblegum Crisis, Pokémon, X, and Golden Kamuy.
While Noboru Kimura and Rasmus Faber don't have the lengthy resumes of Haraba and Ohnuki, they have similarly worked high-profile anime. Kimura composed music for Lupin the 3rd, and Rasmus Faber has composed music for Harukana Receive and The Asterisk War: The Academy City on the Water.
The voice cast for Kyoukai Senki has not been announced at this time
