Official social media for Star Wars is 100% done with haters dissing Kelly Marie Tran.
Star Wars' official Twitter account pushed back against a negative fan reaction to its Star Wars Celebration Live! post announcing interviews with Tran and Billie Lourd, who both appeared in the sequel trilogy. The negative comment stated, "Respectfully no one likes either of them," to which the Star Wars Twitterthe responded, "Respectfully, L + ratio," shutting down any further attempt at generating outrage.
Tran made her Star Wars debut in 2017's Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi as Rose Tico, a Resistance engineer who assists Finn in locating a code-breaker capable of disabling the First Order's hyperspace-tracking devices. The Last Jedi received widespread acclaim from critics but saw significant backlash from fans who criticized various plotholes in the story, such as Rose and Finn's Canto Bight subplot.
Tran received a significant amount of online harassment from so-called Star Wars fans who flooded sent the actor's social media with racist and sexist comments. The harassment forced Tran to delete her Instagram account in 2018. Furthermore, fans have criticized how little screentime Rose received in The Last Jedi's sequel, The Rise of Skywalker (2019), following the public backlash. Director J.J. Abrams claims that more scenes with Tran were shot during production, but had to be removed in the final cut.
Despite her experience with toxic Star Wars fans, Tran returned to play Rose in various animated projects. She provided the character's voice in LEGO Star Wars: All-Stars and The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, as well as a Last Jedi tie-in short for the series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. Rose also appeared in The Last Jedi segment of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which retells the events of every mainline film from The Phantom Menace to The Rise of Skywalker.
Though Tran didn't voice Rose in The Skywalker Saga, notable returning Sequel trilogy actors include Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Billy Dee Williams as Lando, and Naomi Ackie as The Rise of Skywalker's Jannah. Helen Sadler and Matthew Wood also reprised their roles as Rey and Kylo Ren from the Lego Holiday Special.
In addition to Star Wars, Tran has done voice acting work for other projects like Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon (2021) and the Dreamworks animated series, The Croods: Family Tree. Animated content announced at Star Wars Celebration 2022, meanwhile, will primarily focus on the prequel era and post-Revenge of the Sith timeline, such as The Bad Batch Season 2 and Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi. Disney+'s upcoming Ahsoka series, meanwhile, revealed a first look at the live-action versions of Star Wars Rebels characters Sabine and Hera.
