Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Finally Brings Back Yaddle

Disney+'s Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will see the return of a powerful Jedi Master.

Footage shared during Star Wars Celebration 2022 revealed that the animated anthology series, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, would bring back Yaddle in an encounter with Count Dooku. Yaddle, otherwise known as the "female Yoda," or simply a female being of the same mysterious species as Yoda, was a Jedi Master and member of the Jedi High Council before the fall of the Galactic Republic.

While Yaddle has both appeared and been mentioned in a variety of media throughout the Star Wars franchise, she made her first film appearance in The Phantom Menace (1999). Lucasfilm announced the long-rumored Tales of the Jedi during Star Wars Celebration 2022, and offered a first look at the anthology series as well. Tales of the Jedi will be comprised of six animated shorts, with each story focusing on a Jedi from the prequel era. The series will be available to stream on Disney+ in Fall 2022, though a specific release date has not yet been revealed.

Rumors about Tales of the Jedi began circulating in December 2021 after a photo of Lucasfilm's holiday gift to its employees appeared online. While each episode will tell a different story, Tales of the Jedi will focus centrally on Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku, with Liam Neeson reprising his Phantom Menace role as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Neeson's son will voice a younger Qui-Gon in the series as well. Tales of the Jedi will mark the second animated Star Wars anthology series for Disney+ after Star Wars: Visions was released in September 2021. The second season of Visions is reportedly in development and is expected to release sometime in 2022.

Tales of the Jedi began as a comic book series published by Dark Horse from 1993 to 1998 and consisted of multiple distinct chapters set thousands of years before the Skywalker saga of films. The chapters included Knights of the Old Republic, The Freedon Nadd Uprising, Dark Lords of the Sith, The Sith War, The Golden Age of the Sith, The Fall of the Sith Empire and Redemption. While the comics went on to inspire a plethora of spinoffs, the most notable is the Bioware RPG, Stars Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which was released in 2003. The game was followed by The Sith Lords in 2004.

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in fall 2022.
