Spider-Man: No Way Home swings back into theaters with "more fun stuff" this September.
The official No Way Home Twitter account has announced that an extended edition titled Spider-Man: No Way Home - The More Fun Stuff Version is slated to release in theaters on Friday, Sept. 2 in the United States and Canada, with more countries to be announced in the near future. The announcement tweet also includes a video featuring No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
A co-production between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, No Way Home premiered in theaters on Dec. 17, 2021 as the third solo Spider-Man film set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It currently stands as the sixth highest-grossing film in history, having made just over $1.9 billion worldwide at the time of writing.
No Way Home rejoins Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Holland) following the shocking conclusion of 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, in which Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealed his secret identity to the world with the help of J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons). Peter is distraught, as this not only uproots his own life, but also the lives of his girlfriend Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson (Zendaya) and his best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon).
Peter pays a visit to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), asking the former Sorcerer Supreme to cast a spell that would erase his secret identity from the world's collective knowledge. The spell is botched, causing numerous villains from Spidey's pre-MCU films to be pulled across the multiverse, including Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Electro (Jamie Foxx). However, Holland's Spider-Man gets some multiversal backup in the form of Maguire and Garfield's respective versions of the character.
In February 2022, rumors began to surface of an extended director's cut of No Way Home. At the time, a Reddit user explained that the alternate version of the film was scheduled to hit theaters in Indonesia in March, with this claim being corroborated by an r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers moderator. Additionally, a noted scooper separately claimed that the film was indeed getting an extended edition.
However, the supposed extended cut of No Way Home was later pulled from the Indonesian release schedule. The theatrical cut of No Way Home ultimately released on Digital in March, with a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray/DVD release following suit in April. Throughout all of this, there was no further word on an extended edition -- until now, that is.
