Shonen Jump’s Next Big Crossover Should Be Jujutsu Kaisen & Chainsaw Man

Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man are currently two of Shonen Jump's biggest sensations. Both are high-stakes supernatural-horror manga with stunning — albeit grotesque — visuals, and have intensified mainstream interest in Japanese horror. Jujutsu Kaisen's anime is currently ongoing, animated by MAPPA, while Chainsaw Man's anime adaption has also recently been picked up by the same studio.

In the past, Shonen Jump heavyweights like Dragon Ball and One Piece have had special crossovers. As both Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man share both a genre and an animation studio, it'd be extremely easy for a crossover episode to happen between these two series - plus, it'd be the most chaotic kind of fun.

The two series' don't just share an animation studio and genre. Many shonen protagonists tend to be cheerful go-getter types, but Yuji and Denji have even more in common than just their ending letters. Both Yuji and Denji are possessed by demons that give them powerful abilities. Yuji eats a finger belonging to Sukuna, the King of Curses, while Denji fuses with his demon companion Pochita and becomes Chainsaw Man. A crossover could pit these two against each other, and solve the debate of whose demon is stronger. Main villains Makima and Mahito could even team up with a new type of Devil for the protagonists to fight side-by-side -- though their personalities might clash in the process.

Yuji and Denji also have similar backgrounds, as they both lost their guardians. After a heated fight, they could bond over their circumstances -- and their taste in girls. Their colorful supporting casts could join in the fun, as well. There's a lot of potential in interactions, like the "cool types" Aki and Megumi meeting up, the energetic Nobara and Power butting heads and mentors Gojou and Kishibe bonding over unconventional methods. All it'd take is a little timeline gymnastics on Chainsaw Man's part.

Fans already seem supportive of the idea, coming out with fan art like the incredible piece above of Denji and Itadori, created by Twitter user 9baMelo. The picture has over 100K likes and 16K retweets, showing that many fans are interested in a crossover already, or that they at least see the protagonists' similarities.

Jujutsu Kaisen has only been approved for two arcs so far, but with its consistently high popularity, it will most likely get more seasons. The manga also continues to grip its audience, adding to its fame and longevity. Chainsaw Man trails behind with its anime-only recently announced, but the end of Part 1 also promises a fresh adventure. If the two series keep up their hype, maybe we'll finally have another big Jump crossover.
