The upcoming home video release of Kakegurui will feature an all new English dub.
Distributor Sentai Filmworks revealed the new dub by releasing a new clip from the popular gambling series on YouTube. The new dub features Estelle Link as Yumeko Jabami, Black Clover's Adam Gibss as Ryota Suzui and Food Wars' Christina Kelly as Mary Saotome. The new dub, as well as the original Japanese audio track with subtitles, will be featured in Sentai's upcoming Blu-ray releases of Kakegurui and its sequel series, Kakegurui XX.
The Kakegurui anime originally premiered in Japan in 2017. The series was produced by MAPPA, the animation studio behind the anime adaptations of several other high-profile hits, including Jujutsu Kaisen, The God of High School and the final season of Attack on Titan. The series was directed by Yuichiro Hayashi, who also worked on the final season of Attack on Titan, and Kiyoshi Matsuda, whose previous credits include RE-Main and Uchitama?! Have you seen my Tama? The original Japanese cast stars Saori Hayami as the compulsive gambler Yumeko, and Assassination Classroom's Minami Tanaka as Yumeko's classmate, Mary.
The series was previously dubbed by Netflix for its streaming release. This version's cast included Erika Harlacher, who portrays Shinobu in the English dub of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba, as Yumeko, with Devilman Crybaby's Griffin Burns as Ryota and Durarara!!'s Kira Buckland as Mary. The manga has also been adapted into a live-action TV show, which Netflix also streamed internationally.
The franchise began in 2014 as a manga written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Tōru Naomura. The story is set within the elite Hyakkaou Private Academy, a private school that is ruled by its sadistic student council, which forces the school's students to compete in dangerous games of chance against each other. The winners are reward with prestige and connections, while the losers are saddled with ridiculous amounts of debt and are forced to do whatever demeaning tasks their classmates demand them to do. Things begin to change, however, when the seemingly demure and elegant Yumeko Jabami transfers into the school; while her classmates initially mistake her for an easy target, she is actually a viciously skilled gambler who is willing to take on any risk in order to win.
Sentai Filmworks Blu-ray physcial release of Kakegurui will be available on Nov. 30. The series, including its original English dub, is also still available for streaming on Netflix.
