Sentai Filmworks, a global anime distributor and merchandise company, announced its recent acquisition of the anime thriller Kakegurui.
According to Sentai Filmworks, Kakegurui has joined the company's extensive library of hit shows, which includes Food Wars!, Made in Abyss, Kaiji, Bloom into You, O Maidens in Your Savage Season, Parasyte -the maxim- and many others. Kakegurui will be released on home video in the United States, Canada and Latin America sometime in late 2021.
Produced by studio MAPPA (Jujutsu Kaisen, Kids on the Slope, Dororo), Kakegurui is set at an elite private school where students partake in high-stakes gambling in order to gain popularity, prestige and connections. When main character Yumeko Jabami upsets the school's delicate balance, the rest of the student body tries to bring her down.
The anime's directors are Yuichiro Hayashi (Attack on Titan Final Season, GARO: The Animation, Dorohedoro) and Kiyoshi Matsuda (RE-MAIN, Kuma Miko), and its main composer is Yasuko Kobayashi (Claymore, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable). It stars multiple veteran voice actors, including Saori Hayami (Cells at Work!, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia) as Yumeko Jabami, Minami Tanaka (Zombieland Saga, Assassination Classroom, Wake Up, Girls!) as Mary Saotome and Tatsuya Tokutake (Octopath Traveler, Grand Summoners, Beautiful Bones: Sakurako's Investigation) as Ryota Suzui.
Kakegurui is currently available to stream through Netflix.
